I think that there should be more trains stopping at Spondon.

Trains from Nottingham to Derby:
I think that most trains could do with stopping at Spondon except all of London trains and some of the Cross Country trains between 06:20 and 09:30.
The 07:35 train that leaves Long Eaton to Derby which doesn't stop at Spondon well I think that one could do with stopping.

All other that do stop are alright.

There should be a train to Matlock that could do with stopping around at half past eleven.

In evening the Matlock trains should stop at Spondon every two hours.

Trains from Derby to Nottingham:

All the trains that stop at Spondon are perfect times.
If anyone did miss 07:18 Crosscountry trains to Nottingham I would say that 07:33 East Midlands Trains that leaves Derby could do with stopping at Spondon. The same with 07:45 Crosscountry trains to Nottingham if anyone missed that one, The 07:53 East Midlands Trains that leaves Derby could do with stopping at Spondon.

There should be a 09:30 train stopping at Spondon and there should be one around 11:30 train should stop.

In evening there is a train that stops at Spondon at 17:27 and 17:53. They perfect. After that the Matlock trains should stop at Spondon every two hours. The last Matlock to Nottingham train should stop at Spondon.

Why? Would it be worth it? How many people get off there? How many get on?

It's all very well saying 'I think this' but without any evidence to support it, it's a little pointless. Are existing services overcrowded? Is there any evidence for additional demand?

Finding the 2 odd minutes you need to get an extra stop in there is unlikely, Trent is tight as a ducks proverbial so that would probably kill it.

Spondon with around 11,000 is not particually well used. This could be down to the very hit & miss timetable (reasonable peak & non-existant at other times) or may historically have not been well used in past trials. Would imagine being on the mainline & as mentioned the very busy Trent Jc may well have an impact. Whatstandwell & Cromford will now have a regular hourly service but then are on the branch & have slightly more passenger usage. The station i thought had good potential last time is was in Derbyshire is Belper & the improved EM offering at this station will be intresting to watch.

Do you mean the hourly Nottingham service, or is there a plan to start offering London services from there?

(Would be interested if the latter)

No further Belper stops as far as i know. What i meant was that next time the station usage statistics are released it will be the first year that Belper has had a frequent regular intervel timetable & i would imagine a decent increase will result.

I've never really understood why stations like Spondon, close to major cities in the East Midlands, are so under used. The same can be said in the Nottingham area for stations such as Carlton and Netherfield. Going a little further out of Nottingham there are also Radcliffe, Bingham, Burton Joyce and Lowdham. I have never really understood why so few people use these stations, outside of morning and evening peak hours in comparison to stations on the Robin Hood Line.

Is it because thet are all very well served by buses which run into the city centre and a far more convenient destination than the railway station in Nottingham. That could certainly be the problem with Spondon as Derby station is very inconvenient for the city centre. Or is it that the train service from these stations is so sparse and irregular that the train service is not attractive enough?

On the other hand has the Robin Hood Line been such a success because it has a very regular service and will staions such as Belper, Duffield and Ambergate see big increases in passenger numbers now that their train service is more regular.

The thing with Spondon is that there is a very frequent bus service right into the heart of Derby, the Spondon Flyer, so people who are travelling into Derby will more than likely find that easier and cheaper.

I'm not convinced, I think people are more likely to drive (if they have a car) than use a bus service.

I can't say I have noticed many people get on or off there the few times I have been on a train stopping there.

I've just highlighted these posts to make a point; others may have said the same thing. I'm not picking on you three here.

I'm just saying that demand and service provision tend to be linked. For example, in Coatbridge, there's a handful of services to Hamilton every day. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to public transport (including a bus every 5 minutes to Hamilton!) and the service is therefore lightly used, despite the journey time being quicker than the bus and comparable to the car). It doesn't take people off the congested A725. Nevertheless, I would guarantee you that an increased frequency would lead to more people choosing this option rather than the bus or driving.

You're in a bad position; the service is lightly used because there's not enough trains, but you therefore find it difficult to warrant new services because people aren't using the ones that are there because they're not frequent enough. I'm not saying that's the situation with Spondon (I don't know the area), but it's important to bear in mind that this is probably the case with a number of stations.

I understand what you mean, but with Spondon its one of those stations where its named after a place, but isnt is far away from the place, ie Ore (Nr Hastings) has no road access and isnt near Ore. There is a very good bus service from Spondon, and the station is hardly that close. Its like no-one from Carlton actually uses Carlton Station, because it is on Netherfield high st and Netherfield station is in Colwick

Well when I get the bus to catch a train from Derby, I'm always have trouble with the bus as if I travelled before 9.30 in the week I would have to pay full fare as I have a gold card and everytime I catch the bus after 9.30 it is always late and it is packed. When I catch the train from Spondon to Derby it cast me 65p half fare for a single journey. I think the trains are better than a bus.

That one of my reasons why more trains should stop at Spondon more often.

Sadly I can't see this being sufficient justification for Cross Country/ EMT

We might as well have a thread saying all ECML trains should stop at Drem

I've noticed from work that the biggest complainers about bus services are those with passes
