Once it has clouted a few pigeons and pheasants, it won't have that shiny black front. It'll look more like the top of a pendo cab front. It may well also have the new lights in the same housing. Just presume both will have to be on at the same time in either 'blinding', or 'nuclear reaction' settings.

Not sure. He says “The black front will have a yellow decall over it when it renters service. They're upgrading the headlights so that it can have a black front in 2019”.
Ok, so the front should be yellow by the time it comes out or have I misinterpreted what you said?

Have to admit, I'm quite liking the black front of the Voyager so far. Granted though, it looks a lot something you'd see on TfL Rail, and I feel that even with a bit of Virgin branding it won't be able to escape that comparison. Unless of course it becomes a whole lot redder even.

Does this not say that the black will not be visible by the time the train goes back into service, as a yellow vinyl is going to be placed over the top so the front cab will look yellow just as before?

No. Picture the black paint in Yellow. It will eventually In a year or 2 look like that in service. I just asked him.

Then promote it across the network.

LNR have the best one I've seen - it incorporates the wording "First Class" into the stripe in a "bubble" which both uses the standard and emphasizes what it means.
The worst way is to do like the 185s, and put big "First Class" stickers on all doors of the composite car, despite only the centre section actually being first-class. Having your occasional users panic and rush to the next coach like headless chickens isn't going to help those dwell times!

This isn't happening only in the UK. Same thing in Scandinavia, Norwegian and Swedish trains haven't displayed the yellow stripe for years. There's also the tendency to use other definitions than 1st class, it's mostly Comfort vs Regular or Business vs Standard or stuff like that.
Comfort vs Regular??? They're trains, not tampons!

I'm confused and i'll wait and see it for myself.
I don't see what is confusing.

The black front will be the final colour.

For the next X months though, because the headlights are not modern enough, a yellow decal will be applied to the front (presumably over the black) until the lights are converted. Only then will the yellow come off and reveal the black again.

I'll get the text accompanying the photo later.

I can confirm the same thing @EE Andy b1 The lights aren't ready until 2019 so it'll have a yellow patch applied for now. That's off the internal Pravda. ;)

What colour would you apply then?

As others have said, just continue the livery. Removing the yellow for black just strikes as removing it just because they can. There’s no imagination and it looks, well, silly.

Sorry I’m late to the party on this, but when was the mandatory yellow fronts rule canned?

I have to be honest, after seeing yellow fronted trains for the last 43 years of my life, this is going to take a VERY long time to get used to...
