I'm not a great radio listener but even I have stopped listening to Radio 2 of late because Chris Evans grates on me, and the new drivetime combo of Simon Mayo & Jo Whiley doesn't click with me

I am however glad to see that the recent announcements of Zoe Ball replacing Evans presenting the Breakfast Show, and Sara Cox replacing Mayo & Whiley (even if I think that it should actually be the other way round).

One comment I would like to make is that in my eyes, these decisions have been made based on the merit of both DJs. Both Zoe Ball and Sara Cox are good refreshing replacements, I particularly liked Sara Cox when she stood in for Evans in the morning (which is probably why I would like to see her at Breakfast and Zoe Ball at Drivetime :))

I love Coxy, I love when she's in for Evans on Breakfast and was quite disappointed she didn't get that gig, but very happy she'll be on drivetime!

Sara Cox's voice really grates on me and I find her broadcasts to be a bit immature; in contrast to Steve Wright who is silly but in a timeless manner so it is actually quite pleasant to listen to.

Haha I'm the opposite, I can't bear Wright's awful cheesy style, but I do know he rates will in listening figures so I guess it's just me!

Bring back Mr Angry, Gervais, Mick Jagger, Keith Richard and the old woman. Not PC I know but at the time, quite amusing.

I hope they will keep the "Confessions" spot on the new evening show with Sara Cox. Shame Simon Mayo is going. Hope the new Breakfast and evening shows go well. Another good stand in the very early mornings is Nikki Chapman.

Confessions is one of my favourtite podcasts - although they've tried to dress it up too much in the past year with too much additional chatter - it just used to be the confessions stuck together.

Does anyone know where Mayo is heading to? Just as Radio 2 is the retirement home for Radio 1, is Radio 5 the retirement home for Radio 2? Or does he have to head to commercial or, heaven forbid, local radio?

Simon did R5L before coming to R2. He's devoting more time to writing, and possible film adaptions of some of his novels.

Heard rumours Simon Mayo might be going to Smooth fm. I also don't like Chris Evans, he talks far too much over music which is really annoying.

Steve Wright is my favourite show. I particularly like listening to the impressions of famous people, especially the one of Jeremy Vine!

I did like Chris Evans on TFI Friday, but I find him a bit too cheerful on a morning. Zoe Ball will be good on the breakfast show and I will doubtless tune in when the "Today" programme is too depressing (which is often).

Ricky Wilson has been filling in for a lot of people recently and has always been very funny. Time he got his own show I think.

I’m the opposite to the above - I quite like listening to Chris Evans on a morning but not so keen on him on TV shows. That said, both Zoe and Sara have stood in for him on a morning and both have been good, so whilst it is a shame he’s leaving, I think Zoe will fit the breakfast show well

Drivetime hasn't been the same since the reshuffle earlier in the year adding Jo and removing Matt (I think it was Matt anyway!) - I remember their first day together and it was pretty terrible - it has improved but they don’t have the same camaraderie as the previous presenters. I look forward to seeing how things are with Sara taking the helm

Against my better judgment I decided to wait for a car repair last week. After many decades on this planet it is the first time I have had to endure R2 for an extended period.

I now know why I never listen to it, couldn't believe Steve Wright is doing the same dross he did on R1 years ago.

It's still much better than the tuneless noise and endless adverts on other stations. The only problem with it is that it plays too much modern music for my taste.

if you think Chris Evans talks too much you need to go to specsavers and get your hearing checked... I've never heard Chris Evans talking yet!

Won't affect me. It is a long time since I listened to most of the BBC output for music -- too many pap singles and an almost total neglect of album tracks. And too much pandering to what the music "industry" is hoping to sell at the time.

(To some extent, I exclude R6 from my comments, but in general I prefer the type of music played by Planet Rock.)

I spend almost every day working on my own and listening to the radio.
I’ve gone beyond the point of no return with Radio 2, and now I just download various podcasts to listen to (might start a thread on this actually).
Probably 75% of what I listen to is BBC based mind. There’s lots of interesting stuff on iplayer radio.
As Bevan Price said above, there’s hardly any album tracks being played and it always seems to be the same old ‘classics’ played day after day.
Don’t get me wrong though, I’d fight tooth and nail not to lose the BBC. I just find that you have to be a bit discerning when you’re listening to lots of it.

There's always been a degree of migration from Radio 1 to Radio 2, but the mass influx of the post-1993 brigade has really killed Radio 2 off for me. It now just needs Ken Bruce to jump/get 'nudged' and the takeover will be complete. Does anyone else think that Radio 2 should be recruiting from BBC Local Radio instead?

And I agree with yorksrob that there's too much 'modern stuff'. If I want music radio, it's Gold nowadays.

What also annoys me about the "modern stuff" is that it always seems to be the same grating "pop" music. Before Radcliffe and Marconi were deposed to the digital wilderness, they used to pepper their show with the occasional new indie track, which I quite liked, but you never get anything like that on there now.

Apparently thats the reason Jo Whiley isnt happy with the drivetime slot.

Deezer flow. No live radio needed anymore, as Popmaster is now a Podcast.

I used to listen live, or rewind the feed and ended up listening either side. No more - BBC R2 has shot itself in the broadcasting foot.

I only listen during the daytime and on weekdays anyway because the music is so bad at weekends.

Yes it was Matt and he was good, as was the chap that came in once a week to do food items, Nigel, I think, the home work section was good too. May be Sara Cox can bring those back and keep the confessions spot..

You should give Radio Caroline a try, now the longest running radio station in the UK, with a few enforced brief gaps it has been broadcasting for almost 55 years.

www.radiocaroline.co.uk is the main station playing a mix of album tracks and oldies. You can listen on line, DAB in a selection of UK cities (details on the website), and on MW in the south east.

Or click the link on their website for Caroline Flashback a separate online only station playing music just from the 60’s or 70’s.

I find the weekends best. Pick of the pops, sounds of the sixties, sounds of the seventies, Paul O'Grady.

I can do without the showtunes though, and why must we have religious programming on both radio 2 and radio 4 at the same time ? Perhaps they should shunt the R4 Sunday service to R3.
