Last Saturday, I was treated to the Union of South Africa passing the top of my street on a tour from York-Edinburgh with 47854 on the rear. An hour later, I was treated to 47851 and 47826 also heading to Edinburgh from Cleethorpes. I've gone months without seeing one and saw 3 in an hour, Which was nice.

Yeah I work to the idea that I'll probably gain nothing so anything is a bonus. And yes, I don't mind sitting out in the fresh air (even if it's becoming a lot fresher now).

Suppose it's the fun of the hobby that you can go so long without seeing certain things and then they will appear when you least expect them

Right guys, as ever I will post an initial plan of action for my outing tomorrow and allow you good people to obliterate it and provide me alternatives that will maximise my time up there

I've decided to give any special outings to pass depots a miss (no offence @47403, just need to make the most of the time I have for sights) so have the following:

0637 Stafford to Crewe 0657
0707 Crewe to Preston 0751
0813 Preston to Glasgow Central 1038
1240 Glasgow Central to Hyndland 1248
1425 Hyndland to Glasgow Queen Street 1433
1553 Glasgow Queen Street to Partick 1601
1618 Partick to Glasgow Central 1625
1740 Glasgow Central to Stafford 2112

The tickets for my return to Glasgow are advances so I have to catch the trains specified above but the middle bit will be done using the roundabout ticket

Partick will give the same results as Hyndland, but Hyndland is an island platform so less chance of being bowled out.

Word of advice for Hyndland is to take carriage numbers as some of the set numbers are on the off-side [318/320s].

You might also want a trip towards Yoker to see if any EMUs are on the sidings there?

I was only using Partick as means of getting from Queen Street to Central to be honest.....unless there is an alternative route to take?

Just to say, (I'm fairly sure) there are 3 x 314s parked up in the CS at Yoker which will probably be running between the clouds of heaven by the time you come back - not expected to be back in service ... don't know if that bothers you.

The alternative route between the 2 stations is a 5 minute walk. The city centre has some very nice architecture to admire on the way.

walkit.com say 6 mins fast, 9 mins medium but I'm not sure I've done it in that and it is quite easy to get lost - I do generally walk it though. There is also a bus which I'm fairly sure is free (but will undoubtedly be so with a roundabout ticket). Queen St is a bit of a 'mare getting in to and out of at the mo because of building worx.

5 minutes is doable although you can waste time waiting for traffic lights & if it be busy with slow moving walkers

You'll enjoy it and cop plenty.
Pity you couldn't get Haymarket in as that's got a bit of variety but your never going to get everything in 1 day so your plan looks good.

47403 has give you some good pointers for on the route up so not much to add save for at the time your heading up keep alert at Kingmoor yard for the Dalston-Grangemouth tanks(Colras loco).
For Polmadie the sleeper loco and stock will be being shunted in around the time(right hand side inbound Glasgow)a lot of the new sleeper stock will be in the sidings on the left hand side), keep looking right until the end as been a Class 334 at North end of depot and usually one of the Polmadie Class 08's about.
After Polmadie be on left side for coming into Central to get some units you might not see later.

No offence taken at all Mr Train. I was merely saying what you could do but with more than a hint of more of what i'd done in previous visits there.

When I got back into the hobby, Jock Rail territory was heavy on the agenda, as it had been DMU'd to death and requirements were high. So my first forray back over the border to Queen St, Central and Hyndland netted me well over 3 figures in the cops department but bear in mind i did go via Edinburgh too.

That said, I think you'll do equally as well, I'm guessing bar the pendos, it's gonna be close to barren territory. So between the 2 Glasgow stations, both main and Low level platcorms, there'll be 156s, 158s, 170s, 314s, 318s, 320s, 334s, 365s, 380s and hopefully some 385s to nab too. Hyndland's an Island platform, I think your gonna like it there, it maybe a bit cold there but there'll be plenty coming and goings to keep you busy. Factor in the journey on the way, especially Preston and Carlisle, If you don't hit 3 figures, then something's gone horribly pear shaped somewhere. Safe Journey and more importantly enjoy.

Evening folks, thought I'd just update things. I did my trip to Glasgow last Thursday as planned and had a great outing. Unfortunately, whilst planning my report, my phone decided it didn't want to play anymore and promptly stopped working. Having got it to at least allow me to access the menus again, I think I've solved the problem by completing software updates that it turns out had stopped working automatically nearly 2 years ago. Having completed these the phone feels like brand new so, touch wood, all seems well again.

I know the lack of a report would have left a few of you with sleepless nights but I will try to get it written up over the next few days

Indeed, it's amazing at how different my phone is now operating. Considering, it was non-operational just a few days ago, it literally feels like I've brought a new phone now. That said, i was 2 major Android system updates behind along with around 6 or 7 patches.

Ah well all sorted now and the first part of my Scottish trip should be posted tomorrow morning
