At my TOC you either pass or fail. You are scored but that's just to determine if you have passed. You are not ranked.
I guess different companies operate differently? It seems strange to have a benchmark to reach for an interview unless it’s for a management position, as naturally, those who don’t score well will be at the lower end of the pile of interview notes anyway so wouldn’t get a job offer.

You are spot on. When I had my first railway interview some 10 years ago I was asked about trains and routes. I was even asked to draw a map of routes. There was no competency based questions at all. It was purely about trains and routes. Now I'm fairly sure that most if not all TOCs use competency based questions.

It’s still largely varied. I think you’re right that most interviews are competency based these days, but there’s still inconsistencies with smaller parts of the process like asking about the company and it’s routes etc. I have interviewed people and although it’s nit for driving jobs, the interviews are competency based. However, we don’t ask any questions to assertion what a person knows about the company or it’s routes. But even within the same company, interviews vary as you probably know, too.

I'm sorry to say I can't see any positions becoming available at Westbury as we have lost the MRL contract to FL.
The MRL contract is around 90% of Westbury work .

Hi

Does anybody have any info typically how many night shifts you work during a certain period?
how many weekends are worked during a certain period?
what the rest day patterns are?

Im guessing it will vary on depot but just trying gather any info that’s possible,

Thanks in advance

Totally depends on the depot. We have about 2 weeks of night work and a week of band d (night work, but can be used for lates) and some band c which is the opposite. There's 2 Saturdays and 2 Sundays in our 13 week rota, with a flex week, so could work at the most 3 Saturday and 3 Sunday shifts.

That’s great thank your that,

I’m going to be based in East Mids so I’m guessing Toton will be the main place,

Just had an email to say all JD vacancies for Eastleigh and Westbury are on hold following my SAM interview. Disappointing but can’t say I’m shocked.

That must mean you were successful at the interview. At least it's not a no!

I was wondering this to be honest. It wasn’t clear so I’m probably going to ask the question.

They may not have reviewed the interviews with the roles being on hold,

Worth asking the question though just so you know and also so you know when they do become live again you’ve ticketed every box

I'm sorry to say I did say on the 23rd Jan I didn't think any positions would come about due to us losing the MRL contract.

I'd be interested to hear from the few who are currently in training for the JD role. How is life at DB? In was told at my interview that there was a massive push to fill these JD rolesbut that appears to of ground to a halt...

This was what I was wondering too. I phoned them and asked the question. It was a bit of a strange call to be honest. I asked how I scored in the interview if indeed they had got that far. I was told that there’s something they need to clarify and would get back to me. I was also told that it wasn’t anything to worry about on my part, but that I’d need to bear with her. And that was that. She also mentioned that I did score very well at interview, which at least answers the question as to if they got as far as scoring the interviews.

I find it ever so odd that they are still doing testing.
