Similar to the thread about Arriva Northern's applications for December 2019. Transpennine have also submitted some applications. Middlesbrough to Manchester Airport services would be replaced by Redcar to Manchester Airport. Also timings for the proposed Liverpool/Manchester to Edinburgh services are in the documents. If the proposed paths are accepted it will be great for Teesside passengers wanting days out in Edinburgh as the evening services would leave Edinburgh and connect with the late night Darlington - Middlesbrough services.

Interesting that Chathill gets mentioned in the context of the Edinburgh extensions to ECML services...

...BUT don’t get excited, it’s only going to be the location to change from AC to diesel power. :)

What time was the last service out of Edinburgh and where does it terminate?

Interesting that a majority of the services are only Redcar-Man Apt. Only 2 proposed Man Apt- Redcar direct, 1 from York.
Right in guessing it’ll be ECS Middlesbrough to Redcar?

And one train becomes Wakefield Kirkgate- Manchester Picc and vv. I don't quite understand that given that Northern operates the Huddersfield- Wakefield service which has been extended to Castleford now

Stock possibly off Crofton, and becomes a 'might as well'?

What about Liverpool - Glasgow via WCML?

And why change traction at Chathill?

I assume the traction supply isn't able to support extra electric services. According to April's Modern Railways a new feeder at Marshall Meadows (Berwick) is to come into service for the December 2021 timetable.

There's a Neutral section there, also it where the ECO (electrical control operator) control areas change from York to Cathcart.

AIUI from Peter Semmens’ book on the project the lack of a feeder station in north Northumberland was a limitation built in during the original electrification because there was no suitable way of getting a grid connection in that area. The book refers to a “Northumberland Gap” where the normal distance between feeder stations is vastly exceeded. Would have been fine for the original timetable of course.

Waits for driver to forget to drop pan and blow the power supply.
Worst that could happen would be a trip of the supply to the area, which ought to be possible to reset quite quickly. It's probably one of those things that wouldn't be a problem nine times out of ten due to margins of safety etc. Far better than forgetting to drop the pan at, for example, Newbury...

Yes, currently the first departure on a Sunday is 0850 southbound. I work retail. Some degree of usable Sunday services are necessary plus they are well patronised with the 0850 start (ok 0800 from Newcastle).

Incidentally I'm sure TPE promised us improvements on Sunday and a '7 day timetable'. Credit where credit is due, it's become hourly rather than two hourly from Thirsk since last year. But to make the first Southbound so ridiculously late is outrageous.

The first Sunday southbound call at Northallerton also changes from 0842 to 0928. The train which currently calls at Northallerton and Thirsk at 0842 and 0850 respectively is still in the timetable, but starts later from Newcastle and omits the stations - no reason why this would be necessary is apparent from the TPE and LNER timetables currently on RTT, and the arrival time of the train in Liverpool is unchanged.

Incidentally I just tried to send TPE an email to ask about this and it bounced, saying the mailbox is full. There's competence in customer care right there...

There is an apparent reason in that the train is 'reliably late', yesterday was about the first time in several months it ran pretty much on time. But this delay is usually incurred between Durham and Darlington.

I wouldn’t necessarily take what’s in RTT for Dec 19 currently as gospel WTT, could be there’s some flexing around engineering work in there, schedules that have failed upload or other issues.

Is the correct answer. TPE (and indeed Northern) will still be working on their timetables, and the situation will be even more fluid because they are both engaged heavily in introducing new stock, crew training etc. Whilst it may not be ideal for those planning rail journeys months in advance, until all new stock is out in service there are likely to be changes. Trying to base plans on feeds like RTT, or worse going into a complaints meltdown at this stage is not worth it.

Interesting that the TPE services from Newcastle to Manchester Airport are up as leaving Newcastle at either xx43 or xx47 (currently xx17 in most hours). CrossCountry southbound services currently depart Newcastle at xx35 and xx42. This all seems a little tight and means in some hours 3 of the 7 southbound ECML trains leaving Newcastle will do so within an 8 minute period, unless we're expecting changes from CrossCountry?

The Newcastle- Man Apt also pick up a call at Dewsbury every hour, instead of the Hull- Piccadilly.
Hull services won’t call at Mosley either!

The Scarborough to Liverpool picks up Garforth and Stalybridge calls (Garforth coming off the Hull service).

Redcar-Manchester Airport services all look to call at Gatley in both directions.
