I’ve just finished week 2 of signalling school and passed my first observation yesterday.

There is a lot of information thrown at you daily and next week we’ll have our first written assessment. It is really intense in my opinion and came as quite a shock to me even though I’d read through this thread beforehand.

Our trainer is amazing, I love his teaching style and he is super supportive and will stay for hours after school to help out if you need it. Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll help out if I can :)

Good luck with week 3 exam. It’s not too bad , week 4 obs and week 6 exam are the Toughies to get past as I guess that with it costing so much in hotels they don’t wait till wk 11 to see who is going to pass or not. so after wk 6 exam you may get a couple who don’t pass and for those who do the information overload gets less and you start to work out where it all fits in. Weeks 8 and 9 it drops right off before picking up again towards final exam.

Hi,
Can anyone provide me with any information on the Worksop PSB?
I have an interview coming up in the next few weeks and I am struggling to find any information on it?
Thanks in advance!

Thank you. We’ve been told by several people it’s “easy” but that’s easy for all of them to say when they’ve just finished week 12.

My job offer was an email from recruitment / onboarding 5 days after interview. This came with the welcome pack and all the forms to complete.
How did you receive your job offer?

Back in April I was told my course may begin in December.

You’ll be sent for a medical, and your references cheeked - the latter is dependent on the OH provider having appointments available so could take some time.

Getting a signalling school course is the biggest sticking point as there are only so many trainers and places, with LOMs having to wait several months for courses.

Well done ! Which box did you get ? HR can take a while to get paperwork out, references, medical can take a while, can take up to 3 months from passing interview to starting I was told at my last interview. Vacancies at signal school not until Jan/ Feb next year.

I don’t think too many find it easy, certainly not the AB course., but most realise early on that you need to work hard to pass. It’s not a given. A guy last summer did weeks 1-6. Failed week 6. Went back to week 1 again and failed week 6 again but think that’s rare. , just keep on top of the new stuff find your own way to remember lists. And when you get to that point where your staring at the books and nothing is going in , take yourself away, go for a walk and a pint. Need a release from it, a few of ours went to gyms. A couple from another group had their racing bikes in the hotel with them.
Next 3 weeks tough but get through week 6 and it becomes a lot more relaxed and you get more down time. Enjoy.

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread about some IT work being done on the Network Rail website this week, but is anyone else not able to log in to see the status of their application?

I can see my applications status ok. (on both PC and Mac). Also i've seen new jobs being posted on their site when their was supposed to be a recruitment freeze whilst the IT work was being done.

OK. That's weird. I can see it if I log in on my phone, but not on the laptop.

I'll try clearing the cookies and see what happens.

I have issues with their site when trying to log on to the recruitment portal, however opening an incognito window and logging in there seems to work OK

It only started doing it this week, so I put down to the IT work that had been mentioned.

However, clicking on a job on the careers page just went to a dead page and then logging into my account gave an error.

I will try an incognito tab and also clear the cookies. But has anyone else had an issue before using a Chromebook?

That’s exactly what happens for me. Clear cookies and it then works as normal for a week or so.

From what someone else said it seems that the 70 questions are the important thing for signaller jobs. When i did them there were some that you couldn't answer without having previous knowledge of railway signalling. I did email the HR people about it and said if its an external trainee position then presumably they didn't expect any prior knowledge. The guy said yes that's right, just put N/A by any of those questions. So if its a computerised selection process at that stage then anyone who flukes the right answer to one of those questions (or perhaps has some experience) will have a far greater chance of getting though to interview.
Ah well, too late to worry about that now :)

I think there's a danger of over-analysing the process - after all we don't even know if it's computer scored or not and you need to successfully get through the 70 questions before you get the assessments (I think!)

As you have to give examples for any of the questions that you answer yes to, I assume those will be read by a human but perhaps after the assessments have been done. Again, its just guesswork!

Thanks Mostly Harmless and Rockhopper.

Incognito tab worked like a charm. Also cleared the cookies and now all working fine.

What a strange arrangement. Never come across anything like that before. Is it a Network Rail IT quirk?
