What if rather than being withdrawn in 1977, the class 71s were refurbished for use on the new Gatwick Express service instead of the class 73s?

GEC's bid for what eventually became class 60 involved GM class 59s to be built under license at BREL Crewe Works. This is said to have been BR's preferred option, but "Buy British" prevailed and Brush's bid won.

I'd be interested in seeing a 378 in lined LMS Crimson Lake livery; I think the curves of the design would really suit that colour scheme?

No the 91 itself in garter blue, all the coaches in teak :D
or the whole lot in Silver Jubilee style silver and grey?

Let's have the MkIVs in two-tone Coronation blue (garter and sky blue I think) with the DVT painted as near as possible to 'Beaver Tail' colours. Maybe we could have an apple green 90 or a Della in the old Tyneside red & cream.

I've tried to do the Coronation version on a model, but never had the time to do it properly.

Hmmm, Top Gear train challenge...

Hamster: I got this Javelin for 10 and 6. It's sleek, it's fast, it's comfy. I reckon it's a winner.

Clarkson: All very well, but I reckon I have the edge. I got this Class 92. POWERRRRR! Drains the country of juice every time you move the lever bit. So what have you got James? Some sort of Leyland National I presume...

Capt. Slow: You presume wrong! It is... an 08...

...and so on and so on. ;)

What if after replacement with HSTs on the ECML, the Deltics were relegated to secondary duties and survived long enough to wear large logo blue?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

The German state railway DB has had its bid for Cross Country operator Arriva accepted, so maybe the 220s will soon wear ICE livery.

ASLEF have recently announced their intention to bid for the East Coast Mainline franchise, with the aim of running on a not-for-profit basis. Though in reality unlikely to succeed unless they can raise some considerable sums of money to support the bid, this is what an ASLEF 225 might look like, with the livery based on the colours of the union's website.

I read that when east coast will terminate GNER will be reborn. It's true, honest. I hope they make a livery as snazzy as this one

Hmm, slightly London Midland-ish look to this. Certainly stylish, almost as good as GNER.

Virgin Cross Country's original plan for new non-tilting trains was to buy push-pull sets formed of single-ended locos based on class 67 and hauled coaches.

Sat at the control desk of 370666...
Looking at the numerous Deutsche Bahn based liveries on alternativerailways.fotopic.net, I'm hoping praying that DB try and buy out most or all of our rail franchises...If they did, then we'd once again have a "nationalised" network! 8-)
Granted, it would be being run by the German state railway company...But I wouldn't mind - They at least know how to run a railway properly! <D

Anyhow...My support for DB's dominance of the NRN aside, I almost p***ed myself with laughter when I saw this:

A rather upmarket Class 143?

The papers have claimed that the Queen will run out of money by 2012, at which point the new economy royal train will be required.

If only....

P.S.90019, if the repainted class 90 thing happens, you may want to change your signature(look at the repainted 90's number)

I was suggesting you change your avatar to Virgin trains version in case it gets repainted and you want to keep up with the loco's repaint.

P.S.If you want to find this picture, click on the picture of the virgin 67, and the go down and click on the 90s picture.

I think he's suggesting that since the 90 photoshopped into Virgin livery is numbered 90019 then it might end up in Virgin in real life. Unlikely as it's already in a TOC livery for doing the sleepers, so if they did want one painted I'm sure they would choose another. It's not like the 90s get a great amount of use with Virgin anyway, unlike FSR where they are in daily use.
