I'd simply like to know what the cheapest fare is from Sheffield to Worcester. I assume splitting at Birmingham is best, but is this not the case, especially as their is a variety of possible routes and TOC's?

I'll be travelling down on Tuesday 6th July and returning on Wednesday the 7th, and while I don't mind limiting my times of departure by advance tickets, a ticket valid all day would be ideal. I say this because (in my eyes) the problem with advance tickets for this sort of journey is how it involves lots of trawling through the various TOCs websites' for good deals - so if anyone knows any that would be brilliant.

Thanks in anticipation!

Well I'll start with a few initial findings

Derbyshire Wayfarer Sheffield - Burton x 2 £17.80
Burton - Worcester Off Peak Return £18.80

Total £36.60 Saving £10

Looking at Advances I can see

Sheffield - Worcester for £12.50 (Changing at Derby,New Street and Smethwick,£19 for a Single Change at New Street)
Worcester - Sheffield for £19.00

Total £31.50

Try Derbyshire wayfarer Sheffield - Burton On Trent £8-90
Off Peak Return (SAV) Burton - Worcester £18-80 & another wayfarer home.

Total of £36-60

Your train would have to stop at Burton on Trent for this combbination.

Do you have a railcard? If so, the cheapest flexible option would probably be:

Sheffield-Derby off-peak return = £11.10 (valid after 9am M-F)
Derby-Worcester off-peak return = £13.85 (valid after 9.30am M-F)

TOTAL = £24.95

You do know who the OP is, don't you? ;)

And I suggested Derby via text but said he may be able to get a better deal by posting here.

Without a railcard it's £1.20 more to split at Derby than go with Wayfarers, but with the ability to get all trains and not just those that stop at Burton it may be worth the £1.20.

And I would advise against Advance unless significant savings are to be made, as they screw you if you have to make changes. A £10 saving may have been worth considering if it was a train, but not a coach IMO.

So, I'd go with the Derby option too.
