As far as I am concerned there are no male or female drivers. Just drivers. This is a difference however in train drivers and people who drive trains

Thank you everyone, I have applied to Transport Wales and feel really keen to do something for me. My husband was a pilot and is now redundant so I feel it's my turn to have a career I can be proud of....

I may not be a train driver because I have colour deficiency, can not tell red from green. Very few females have that
If I had my life again, I might be a child carer, very few males do that, children need role models of different genders apparently
So boys can learn to be boys sooner, plusminus?

Nice one! Good luck, and please keep us updated on your progress, if you don't mind. I wish you well.

I read it as being the difference between people who like being a driver, and people who are just driving trains becauses its a job. Often it can be the same people at different time.

I am a 47 year old woman who would like to start a new career now my children are older. Am I too old??

Your not too old, and most companies promote women drivers.

If you can put up with the shifts, and can take railway banter in the mess rooms, you will be fine.

Pending depots, you can have some great laughs, and nights out. I'm one of the senior drivers, and these younger drivers keep me young and on my toes, though I can't drink as much as they can!!!!

You can learn from your experience, make notes while it is fresh in your mind, apply elsewhere

Very disappointed as I have received a 'with regret' email from Transport for Wales. Gutted :(
The application form has to be pretty damn good. In some respects a good hurdle to fall at as it prepares you for the stringent selection tests and processes.

No doubt a bit peed off but keep plugging away, you’ll get there in the end I expect.
