Not sure if anyone on this forum is on the Class 315 Preservation Society Fb group but a pic was recently put on there showing 315808 and 315822 awaiting their fate at Booths over a week ago. There are also pics of 315811 + 315852 at Sims Metals Newport just after they were shunted into the yard by 37800

801/815 Northampton Friday
810/859 off lease Saturday
802/807 last ARL survivors from Monday (no booked work, but quite likely to be out to release 710s for training)

Hi, does anyone know whether the final 315s are out on West Anglia this evening / PM peak and which diagram? Cheers!

there will be a run i believe next Tuesday as a special last run in service, but all 710’s still planned to be in operation from Monday.

Yes, Tuesday between the peaks subject to further COVID restrictions which look unfortunately likely for London. The 802/807 to Northampton Wednesday.

315810 + 315859 should now be making their final voyage to Newport. For the first time since last year 37884 is in charge of this scrap drag https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K03353/2020-10-15/detailed

Also it has seemingly been confirmed that next Tuesday will be the last day of the LO 315s in operation, with 315802 + 315807 being the last pair in service

Correct. Special diagram Tues 20th Oct. Will be brought out sidings to work 12.25 dep from Chingford round to Enfield and back to Chingford finishing 1500 then back into the sidings. That will be the last action of a 315 in service on LO.

So those trains will effectively be cancelled for the general public?

No they just wont be a 315. As 87015 says things have changed since I posted that. Discussions currently over what going to happen with it. May just be taken over to Ilford without any fanfare at all. However as it stands there is still a unit and driver diagram for it, we’ll see.

Are the Crossrail ones all binned now? I can’t keep up!
21 TfL Rail/(Crossrail interim) ones have been scrapped, with 4 in storage awaiting scrap.

This is from the 315 wiki, so may not be 100% up to date, but gives a good idea as to whats going on.

There is apparantly only 19 TfL Rail ones left and only 4 Ldn Oground ones left in service, so get out there and get photographing them, mask on and 2m apart of course!

I'm waiting on the next Northampton move to capture some more, as London is far too dangerous at the moment for me to risk going there! So I just hope the scrap moves and storage moves come through Milton Keynes and Wolverton way so I can see them!

Just watched a YT video of yesterday’s scrap move and remarkably it appears that 810’s destination display had been switched on (probably unintentionally) one last time! Couldn’t tell what it was displaying but it isn’t the first time that it’s happened; 315842 had its display turned on during its last journey to Newport last year

Sad once that they are gone as the PEPs derived units are probably the the best work horses BR produced. The seating original seating may be moaned about however it was perfect for the the work they were designed for, low back meant the felt airy and allowed free movement.
They may not have been loved by enthusiasts but they were dependable work horses and rarely failed in service. They will be missed.

Agree but from the 00s onwards people started to want air-conditioning (available on almost every car since around 2003 even if as an optional extra) USBs and WiFi.

Air conditioning is one thing that is necessary.

I feel USBs and WiFi are good for people who need to keep working on the go.

On the other hand though, I’m one of the few teenagers who does not have a phone permanently glued to my hands 24/7 and I think that USBs and WiFi just encourages excess phone usage for most people and I think it’s sad, just look out the window instead of looking at nonsense on social media all day!

One big advantage of the air conditioned trains and non opening windows is the reduction in line side litter. Used to be terrible in the days of the Mark 1 EMUs for people just chucking stuff out the windows. Not so easy on the PEP derived stock i grant you though.

There has been a real change in how people travel up to Covid anyway, no longer about the journey just about the getting there. Hence HS2 with its big sell being Brum 10 mins quicker. The comfort won't be there but we've somehow shifted to this, well it may be uncomfortable but you'll be suffering for less time. Makes no sense to me.

Once again pics have been put up on the Fb group showing 315810 + 315859 being shunted into the yard at Sims Newport. Sadly the pair from last week are now no more so Sims must take at least a few days to dismantle all the carriages

Though all that can be retro fitted if you want. Pacers have Wi-fi, sockets are a bit harder but not impossible. Plenty of ancient Subway cars in New York had air con fitted in the '80s and '90s.

The yobs used to enjoy chucking the original seats out of the hopper windows. Chessington South seems to be a hotspot for some reason. There were dozens on seat bases dumped on the disused up line. Not sure if they have been cleared up now.

Seen it reported elsewhere that the 10.48 Liverpool Street - Chingford is 802/807 - cannot confirm myself though
802/807 about to work 13.33 LST -CHI. Nobody can confirm if they are on this diagram for the rest of the day.
