Confirmed by Geoff Marshall that it missed by 21s: https://twitter.com/geofftech/status/1405519614692315143
Can't actually find the tweet I saw now, but as others have posted Geoff has now tweeted out the same so assume it to be true.Got the link?
At least they have the luxury of a second attempt. And perhaps with having the experience of using modified braking points etc that can be used to better things next time. What a shame....but why on earth did they depart Euston a minute early? Next week perhaps?
GeoffTech confirms - 21 seconds behind the APT-P record

A reply to Geoff's tweet mentioned OLE issues at Stafford - I watched it come through and didn't think they were at line speed...
Good luck for take #2!
As I said at the beginning part of me was willing it to lose so the APT-P record could still stand - 36 and a hakf years on. Were too many people willing the same!Nationalised Railway 1 - Privatised Railway 0![]()
Also I think the minute early start (or however early it was) was also an issue, it needed to stay early but it ended up back on scheduled timings. If it kept exactly one minute early it would have beaten the record by 39 seconds.Carstairs was key too, lost a minute going through there which was crucial in the end.
I forgot about that.
Couldn’t agree more, always a grumpy whinging on about anything and everythingOh do be quiet you miserable thing.
APT-P record survives. Another vindication of building local trains for local lines. (rather than buying in from FORRIN.)
(But seriously...)
Could it be that the safety regime is tighter these days - such as no overspeeding allowed?
TASS for one thing supervising the EPS speeds.APT-P record survives. Another vindication of building local trains for local lines. (rather than buying in from FORRIN.)

Well - only if you want it to lose again!Same again next week?![]()
Or just one or 2 issues, OHLE damage at Stafford just before the train went through which hindered the attempt, then going through Carstairs, i think it can be done without those issues & another attempt next week.
I'd be interested to know what, if anything, happened at Carstairs, as there was nothing in front of it. Maybe that section of the timetable was simply too tight to achieve?
The APT-P had to deal with 6 TSRs on its runSome of those on board are stating a temporary speed restriction at Carstairs.
That is a pity, but it also shows how bold the attempt is. Keeping 401 miles of operation railway clear is a big challenge.Someone on Twitter is saying 21s behind the record. No idea of the source of that though.
Well - only if you want it to lose again!![]()
Get the staff to pre-treat the rails with liberal quantities of sandite gel?Perfect weather for the run today at my local part of the WCML, looks to be quite rainy next Thursday
Plausible - work is going on there. Some of those on board are stating a temporary speed restriction at Carstairs.
Unfortunately with todays standards I fear you are right. Nobody takes risks anymore even if they are just small furry ones.Well - only if you want it to lose again!![]()
Next week. A second run was already scheduled as a back up if the first run didn't succeed.
Today shows how difficult this sort of thing is on the modern railway that's busier and with different safety standards. I wonder if / when this will be attempted again!
