With more 600s going into service today at Marine 312/3/4/8, 342 and another two unidentified Gemini 2s have turned up at Longstone this morning.

Presumably replacements for the remaining 900s.
312 is now in service on route 3.

307 has spawned today on the 11 too so presumably a couple to Central?

Have 301-303 been withdrawn? They have been sitting behind Marine with logos but VOR and only 301's tracker has been reset.

Quite a few 900s away from Longstone today, presumably down to Marine for withdrawal. Not sure which altogether but saw 916 going.

300s out on Longstone routes including 310 on an LS operated 2.

431-434 are currently at Seafield. Apparently having their luggage racks removed. I bet they will end up a different colour………

If true then I’m hoping we might see these end up staying at Central permanently, I can imagine one of two drivers disagreeing with me there. Still better than 1051-1062 surely? Hopefully it’s a near enough match with 426-430 (minus the gold band).

Would leave 435-437 as extras for Skylink if needbe if they aren’t modified and would also suggest that an increase to the 300 would be unlikely anytime in the coming months.

That's if the 300 survives?????

I really hope not - 426-437 are easily the worst of the B5s and I absolutely hate them. <(

1051-1062 aren't great, but they're nowhere near as bad.

Don't know what it is with those - 551-570 that are also on 15 plates have far better build quality.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Some of the skylink fleet are are truly terrible now from the perspective of a passenger. Every bit that can possibly shake rattle and and generally be an annoying pain in the ass manages to do so and given that some of the roots get up to some decent speed this simply exacerbates the problem.

I think the future for the 300 is not its current route but would perhaps do well operating a skylink service from say tranent or musselburgh running non-stop via the bypass with the exception of servicing all park and ride sites between wallyford and the airport. I think once the pandemic is over or at least subdued this sort of service would make money not just from airport passengers but for those wanting an orbital trip around the city, there are more than a few that would take advantage of such

Absolutely not, although 1051-1062 might be held together using tape at least their interior doesn’t have that hideous smell that 431-437 have.

Agreed. Those and 401-425 seem to have the best build quality out of all the Gemini 3s.

Honestly I still think the 300 should of extended to the Royal Infirmary when it had the chance but it’s too late now, and like I said before I wouldn’t be surprised if the service was curtailed back to Slateford!

Honestly I think the 400 would make a better bet extending to East Lothian since it currently goes as far as Fort Kinnaird, maybe run via the A1 to QMU then via Musselburgh High Street all the way to Wallyford P&R!

The 300 should either go back to its former route or mirror the 35 to Ocean Terminal and have the 200 extended to Portobello or Musselburgh.

Honestly at this rate regardless of how the Skylink services are changing we all aren’t going on holiday anytime soon so it’ll be local residents that will be benefiting more!

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the 'local' bit in regards to the 300??

That was the original 300! It probably was changed as it was just the 200 with a different route....
The 35/300 changes came about to simplify and increase the airport fare (in line with other services). Riccarton also benefitted for student links on the “new” 35.

Having both the 200/300 starting at Ocean Terminal also caused confusion as airport passengers would often make the mistake of taking the 300 resulting in a very long, unnecessary journey! It was often much quicker to take a city bound bus then change onto a 100.

The idea of Skylink to East Lothian and extending routes down Seafield road has been discussed here numerous times and the same reasons as to why its not practical last time it was discusses are the exact same as they are now.

What would be practical is if the relevant authorities could chuck a bus lane down along the hard shoulder of the bypass or build a parallel bus corridor...we can dream though
That is the only way Skylink would reach Midlothian or East Lothian...would save on taxi fares too if done right.

1134 has been converted into a vaccination bus, although it is still Airlink branded. It has had its luggage racks removed. It is sat at Fort Kinnaird currently

1125 has now unfortunately lost it's Centenary branding and is now wrapped in a "Giraffe Bus" livery. I do think it looks smart, just shame there is a lack of Lothian logos. Lothian Buses Article:

Whilst 1125 did look nice, for me it was maybe time for it to either be altered or removed. I’m not surprised that they’ve made a full wrap but I am surprised they’ve opted for this on an XLB, you would think it would either mainly be used on the 31 OR a possible transfer to Marine (seems unlikely), or am I just overthinking this completely and it’ll just get sent out on 7, 11, 16, 27, 37 etc?

XLB's were on the 31 prior to the initial lockdown (as opposed to the 37) so I wonder if they are considering switching back to this. I did notice last Saturday XLB's were switched to the 31 from the 37. Plenty of possible reasons for this I know. There has been at least one XLB operating on the 31 each day this week.
