These things are quite a pest any sign of wind and the blow off somewhere. I have lost count of the number of incidents I have read about caused by trampolines.

Who ends up picking up the bill for the havoc and damage they cause?

The owners of the trampolines should be fined for not securing them properly. I'm pretty sure these things are designed to be tied down but most people just stick them in their gardens without securing them at all.

It strikes me as something that would be covered by the liability clause of their home insurance policy, provided a Court would consider them negligent for not having secured it in windy conditions.

I've just watched our trampoline lift off the ground and come straight back down thanks to some simple ropes round the trampoline's legs and the nearby fence. It's not too tricky...

I was supposed to be taking my cat to the vet for her annual check up on Friday - postponed that until next week after looking at XCWeather web site early today which I always find a better site than the MetOffice when it comes to wind forecasts.

My major anxiety in for several years when it comes to wind is large tree which stands in the grounds of a currently unused property to the rear of my house.

The property, a former synagogue, has been been subject to various redevelopment plans over the past decade, the tree in the grounds if it were to fall has the potential to cross my neighbour's garden and hit either my house, my neighbours' house or her neighbour's house.

I guess a good few anxious hours lie ahead.

Only good thing about Eunice where I am the worst will be day time and at least one can see what is happening!

This sort of situation is a menace. I had a tree in my garden which I regarded as a liability (especially as many years ago a neighbour had cut a load of branches off one side which always concerned me regarding stability), so I had it removed at some considerable expense.

Meanwhile, right outside my house is a council-maintained tree, which has been allowed to grow significantly in recent years. I've had enough of a battle just getting them to trim it back so nothing actually overhangs the house. There have always been constant issues with bits coming off it, as well as blocking gutters all the time it has cost me quite a bit in repairs to roof slates over the years. I have made it very clear to the council that should any injury occur as a result of the tree then I would be looking to hold them potentially negligent. The only saving grace is the tree leans away from the house and is pretty substantial so I don't think it would actually topple. Very frustrating when a hazard is foreseeable but beyond one's control. In my case I can't touch it as it has a preservation order.

We have a culture where the answer to things is "claim on your insurance". Just like when people drive down untreated hills when the road is covered in iced-over snow, prang a load of cars belonging to others, make out that the whole thing was down to some freak of weather rather than their own poor situational judgement, and then say "it's okay, the insurance will pay".

They should, but trying to source an owner is probably impossible. I too have dealt with issues with trampolines and its a real nuisance. In one incident, one of them managed to end up welded to the 3rd rail...

GN/Thameslink have now said 'do not travel' on all their routes north of London on Friday and announced a very reduced timetable (that I suspect will be reduced further by/on the day). I think this will be the right call.

Tree on the line in the Keighley area. Gusts haven’t been that strong today, however, it shows you that it isn’t just strong winds which can blow trees over.

The saturated ground is almost certainly a contributor to this. Friday will be ‘interesting’ shall we say…608DCDE6-9E86-4669-A5BD-D2F90878CDB9.jpeg

Bbc is showing 71mph for Friday morning in exeter

And yet nothing from GWR whatever so far. Nor Greater Anglia, amongst others.

SWR say they are 'not planning to reduce their service' according to NR - good luck with that :-/

We can make our own minds up ourselves.

As the post immediately above yours said, many people cannot make up their own minds and have to be told not to venture out in extreme conditions, although whether they take any notice is another thing !

Who ends up picking up the bill for the havoc and damage they cause?

As it is an obstruction on the line, Network Rail.

Current plan is 50Mph Kings Cross to York on Friday, with extremely limited service running.

I'm not looking forward to Friday and I'm not travelling anywhere. :'(

It'll be interesting to see how the new OLE stands up on the recently electicfied GWR lines.

Storm Eunice already has Amber Warnings in place, but looking at the Warning impact matrix at the moment, it's possible that some areas may see that upgraded to a Red warning if likelihood increases, with some places seeing 100mph gusts possible. The most likely places for this appear to be the Southwest and the west coast of Wales:

This would explain restrictions on services being brought in on Friday.

Looks like they should be careful south of a line from the Humber to the Mersey. Looks like further north we are getting our lot today.

50mph also on Midland Mainline. I’m not sure on service levels as yet
EMR website states 1ph to Sheffield and 1ph to Nottingham with a Kettering to Corby shuttle. Journey times extended by up to 120 mins.

On the regional side Liverpool - Norwich will be shortened to Sheffield - Peterborough with everything else running as close to normal timetable as possible.

This evening's model runs have not given-up on the general track and intensity of Eunice. 80-90mph gusts possible inland and it's likely a coastal area or two could see 100mph gusts. Comparisons with 1987 are understandable but they are two very different storms, Eunice is less intense but will bring gales to a wider area for a longer period of time.

The Friday evening peak will be carnage.

With the rain, Tuesday Patchway up portal was shut due to rain. What on earth will Friday bring I wonder.

Hypothetical question: if I was on a train from London to Glasgow Central which was booked in advance to a connecting station such as Helensburgh, and the London train got me to Glasgow Central, what would be the obligation on a TOC to complete my journey today?
Someone in that position tweeted ScotRail wanting their Twitter team to sanction hotel accommodation and were told that with the notification having been given yesterday there was an expectation that passengers would adjust their travel accordingly. Ended up that the passenger was given a link to email customer services with his story as it was not something that could be resolved on Twitter.

Got to work tomorrow morning then thankfully an extra long weekend off until next Thursday. That’s got to be a far better option than driving trains around over the next few days.

It’s reported within Thameslink that there is a tree on the line at St Albans and it is on fire

The Midland Mainline is unlikely to reopen for the rest of tonight.

The electricity to the overhead wires has been switched off between Bedford and London St Pancras (not sure if it’s the entirety of said route) due to safety reasons.
