Just remember as stated earlier today it's just a bit of wind, it's ludicrous how the network stops

What's the situation looking like tomorrow? I can imagine urgent repairs for anything like downed lines to roof damage will take longer than overnight to repair. I was hoping to take a Northern then TPE train across the Pennines, will look at the situation tomorrow morning. It's forecast a calmer day but no use if lines are still blocked and stock in the wrong places.

I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask this but I didn't want to litter the forum with another query. I have to travel this evening from Horwich Parkway to Manchester (for a night shift) and was wondering what the likelihood of me getting there would be? It looks like (on Northern's Journey Planner, at least) trains aren't running until after 8pm but real time trains doesnt say they're cancelled. Confused!

A bizzare day, where I’ve seen wrong direction moves on the SE to Slade Green yet The Elizabeth Line has run, all be it with some delays. Shame we had no passengers.

Naturally this is more than just a bit of wind, 90Mph gusts down here earlier.
It is getting better down here now, a bit less windy (although still bad, and warnings on the matrix sign that the beach road will flood), though buses are now still running.
Going inn to Weymouth earlier it was certinaly not great driving weather, with my sister having to work hard to keep the car straight (although she was only doing ~35Mph due to vehicles in front) though no issues, althogh one road we had been down has now had a tree fall down, and not long after we were there!

As Northern have been running them since start of service, why not?
Because now the Manchester line via wbq is shut again aswell as the Cheshire King's that was shut earlier and after the November storm tfw lost 6 units to storm damage, one even derailed at Balderton and why risk valuable rolling stock before a busy weekend.

Not looking good. I'd advise to take the bus into Bolton and out to Manchester (575/8) - there are some very early morning return buses to Bolton from Manchester but not sure if they run on a Saturday. What time do you return?

I've been sat here in the pub not seeing much noticeably different, other than it being a bit blowy coming in, but then again I'm quite a bit North of the centre of the storm

strictly speaking you are a long way south west of the centre of the storm, which is in the North Sea off the coast of Norway / Denmark. You were however north of the highest winds across England.

I believe Man Picc has suspended all services for the moment. I would try the bus. Stay safe.

But it's not the "just a bit of wind" that stops the network.

It's the trees across the line; the trampolines in the four foot; the pantographs wrapped round the OHLE etc etc

I saw a series of Tweets with SWR where they said someone who needed to travel should travel around the same time tomorrow.

When they said they needed to be somewhere by midday, they were told to refund the ticket and buy a new one.

This was going to cost them £80 more or something like that. Obviously they weren't keen.

Surely to foster goodwill and repeat business, railway companies should take a common-sense approach and allow the earlier travel.

Acting likesl this will put people off.

It's not the TOCs fault it is windy but by fostering a good relationship they might get extra repeat business. What do others think?
Agreed there, if someone held an advance ticket for a train today which has been cancelled then only allowing them to travel on a similarly timed train tomorrow will only push passengers away towards using the motor car.

Especially if they are saying "you can always get a refund and buy a new ticket". If someone is forced to fork out for a hotel they won't be happy to be forced to fork out for an open ticket.

I notice other operators are saying they can use tickets dated today on any train tomorrow -> Monday

I thought that was just a tongue in cheek post about comments earlier today. Otherwise it would be nothing short of trolling.

Thank you for your reply. It doesn't matter what time I return. My colleague has offered me a place to stay so won't need to go home in a hurry early Saturday morning.

I should have specified "the stormy bit of the storm" !

Indeed it is, how dare all those trees fall down blocking the railway, us weak southerners can’t cope compared to northerners ;)

Thankfully by late afternoon the weather went back to 'normal' here, and I've used my day indoors as wisely as possible. My to-do list has come down a small amount :D

I'm told there's more bad weather due in the next week, although I'm not sure if it's enough for a weather warning? I haven't looked yet, it's on the list to do this evening as a priority. I was also told earlier it was going to be nice again after today, so I'm not believing it until I see that!

I hope everyone's day has gone as well as possible, and that damage is minimal :) I've not seen anything break here, which is good news. I am glad not to be out there trying to fix all the issues mind, and I wish the Orange Army the best of luck dealing with it!

Although wind speeds where supposed to drop here in Norwich by 15:00 this was later put back to 17:00 yet it’s now 18:15 & there are still some seriously strong gusts.

It has calmed down quite a lot in Ely in the last half-hour, it seems we're finally seeing the back of it. It had been strongly gusting fairly consistently here since about 11 - never went away, but fortunately never got worse either, and the 'sting jet' didn't happen, thank goodness.

Everything in/out of Cambridge and Ely appears cancelled for the rest of the night. I suppose that could change but perhaps not.

I doubt it. Probably some ECS proving trips at first light then see how it goes.

Well the road off portland will be closed from 7-10 tonight due to high water at 8:15 and the high risk of flooding, not good.

What's the deal on the West Coastway from Brighton. I know there's no service, but I'm curious as to which out of a tree/bin/roof/trampoline is blocking the lines and where.
Turns out there are concerns about the Roof in Chichester.

South Western Railway is now saying you can travel Sunday or Monday but at a similar time.

One Tweet replay did say please try so I would take that to mean you tried but cant and will travel earlier.

Fostering goodwill is what the TOCs need right now to get people back on the railways. Perhaps that is the loss of people who make the decision

I'm not averse to asking people to travel around the same time if they can but leave it at that

Because one has hit a tree, so another unit wrecked.

A tree has also burst into flames causing passengers to be stranded as service have now been suspended.
