Indeed - the cascade seemed to work rather well for GTR from that perspective. Still wonder whether the blue doors will be kept or whether Southern olive will be vinyled to match the /1s? Have to admit, the blue doors suit them better.
The blue is significantly darker than what they use on the 700/717 though. I reckon they should revinyl the entire 387 GN (not GX obviously) fleet with blue doors in the same shade as the Desiro Cities. Perhaps they will.

Could be true yeh. Maybe thats proof that they were at one point expected to be sent to southern
The units were ordered by Southern for Thameslink before they became part of GTR, hence why they were built to their spec - after that, they were expected to be used on Corby services with EMT. Once the MML electrification got delayed, they were then bound for GWR until they ordered their current fleet of new build 387s, hence why they ended up going spare and moved to Great Northern to release the planned 377/5s for them to Southeastern.

The blue is significantly darker than what they use on the 700/717 though. I reckon they should revinyl the entire 387 GN (not GX obviously) fleet with blue doors in the same shade as the Desiro Cities. Perhaps they will.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they left them as they are in all honesty.

Second attempt for the GWR drag? Seems as though a loco is pathed into Reading TCD for Tuesday: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:53669/2022-07-05/detailed

Not really, they were started straight after the 377/6/7s were built and effectively a follow on order by Southern for Thameslink services so go Southern Spec interiors/doors. Passengers aren’t going to identify a train by the colour of its doors so there’s no need to revinyl or paint them.

387303 is now at Hornsey, apparently to use the wheel lathe.

I suspect you’ve been misinformed, the wheel lathe is out of use ufn whilst a bogie drop is installed
That doesn’t necessarily mean it will be going in straight away, not going to say who my source is but they’re pretty reliable - the units are now allocated to Hornsey anyways, so will likely also be receiving the mods required to work with GTR.

I saw it heading to Hornsey earlier, good to know they’re staying on the GN. The lathe upgrade is approximately 2 months into a 6 month project so I hope its wheels aren’t too square

Ahh yes, misread - basically 303 has wheel flats, so was likely sent to Hornsey taking into account both this and the lathe upgrade. Monday mornings hey!

No worries lol. If they’re too bad, it’ll have to go elsewhere for turning. There’s a lathe nearby at Bounds Green

You may have answered my question.
I went thruPeterborough today at about 1pm and I thought I only saw 2 387s when expecting 3.
They were in the line nearest to the ECML.
Can anyone confirm both 4 and 5 were there then?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, only 304 and 305 are at Peterborough now as 303 has a wheel flat so went over to Hornsey this morning - 301, 302 and 306 will be due at Nene tomorrow.

So I’ve been told - can imagine it will also receive its mods to be compatible with GN’s other 387s.

Precisely that. They'll be like a GN 387/1 when they're done. Just with Blue Doors...

I assume the c2c 387s also have the divide 2/3s down in one of the driving carriages? Do the GWRs ones have this too?

Yes, all 387s have the divide in the 421xxx coach. Likewise, 377/6s, 377/7s and 379s in the same location.

Though at least it actually works as a first class divider in the 379s, unlike Southern who, for reasons unknown, decided to have the sham first class at the inner end of the coach. Just odd that Bombardier carried it through all the subsequent builds following the 379s.

Definitely just left Reading for Peterborough (again), although I didn't see what was up top this time.

Although just seen the clue above so assume 37601!

Can confirm it was 37601. 5Q45 departed approximately 30 mins early and hopefully that’s the last we’ll see of it! :D

Would appear so - seems to have made it past Acton Main Line this time!

They had already had shoe gear and shoes fitted since build. Please check the video that I linked in post #31, and the reply in the next post.
The shoes were removed at c2c however the rest of the hardware was left in place, such as the beams

I’m told the shoes themselves are a very quick replacement job anyway, as they’re obviously a wearing part in normal service.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I’ve just spotted 303 sitting outside Hornsey with GN branding applied. The Navy blue doors remain for now
