Why is hamilton square on merseyrail BKQ and why is moorgate underground ZMG?

Hamilton Square's more common name is Birkenhead Hamilton Sqaure - Q is the common letter for 'Sqaure', see SLQ for St leonards Warrior Sqaure;
The 'Z' in Moorgate Underground implies Undergound-managed - see ZFD for Farringdon.

I always remembered STP because of Standard Temperature and Pressure from A level chemistry.

I tired BSH for Birmingham Snow Hill before finding out it was BSW. At least ERDington is nice and simple as is SUTton Coldfield.

I prefer the three letter codes, makes it more interesting trying to guess the code

Other than Ayr and Ely are there any other stations where the three letter code and the name of the station are exact matches?

Rye and Ore for three-letter names too. No two-lettered stations, the five already mentioned for three are closest.

Anerley used to be ANY, I suspect RSP needed the 'ANY' code for something else and obviously other combinations of the letters in Anerley were used up. It was changed about 4-5 years ago.

According to the Station Usage Statistics from Delta Rail, Anerley is still ANY :?

Put ANY into Avantix Traveller NFM08 and you get quite a list of options, including 'ANY DUTCHSTATION'!!!

that's for "Dutchflyer" tickets which are, as it happens, valid to any station in The Netherlands.
