It's pepsi
It was coke the last time I used first class a couple of weeks ago!

Edit: Seems like it is now Pepsi! But they have Pepsi Max which is an improvement as far as I'm concerned

I was surprised when I went down just before christmas. It tasted awful, but I think that was more to do with my crippling hangover than the cola itself...

Service over christmas and new year was really very good - prompt, regular and friendly. They did run out of gin just before Edinburgh, but that seemed mostly down to generosity in the service than anything bad

Every day's a school day - has been coke for yonks!

Presumably Pepsi made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

Now to watch out for Cross Country :D

Just when you thought they couldn’t cheapen (apart from the fares) the service any more, Coke becomes Pepsi :E

Can't say as I'll be in any great hurry to try the new menu that starts today
I agree. Those trains out of London in the evening that LNER think are only good enough for Dish have a poor choice (IMHO) for dinner.

It's Veganuary, which is apparently a good reason to foist cheap tat on the rest of us. Consider yourself lucky they haven't decided we should be doing dry January as well.

Whilst it is unarguable that the weekday service has declined I do think it worth remembering that the weekend service is light years ahead of what it was prior to Covid. This morning on a service from Northallerton to London saw a good range of hot plated breakfast item being offered (bacon roll, vegan sausage bap, porridge or waffles) alongside a tea/coffee and soft drinks. A few years ago passengers would have been offered maybe the porridge or a cold pre-packed croissant. I agree with other comments that the culling of full breakfast services (from *every* train to now a bare handful) is rubbish and that the further decline of services offering the extra hot option in an evening are all negatives as is the inconsistency of what is actually offered (always an issue to an extent but it's gotten very bad recently). But let's not lose sight of what is a welcome improvement!

Also I see that the Pepsi cans are full size 330ml rather than the titchy 250ml we'd been getting when it was Coke!

The January Dish menu is very disappointing. The only additions on the menu compared to Deli are waffles (am) or vegetable curry dish (pm). If I wasn't receiving delay repay I'd be submitting a complaint about the poor choice and false advertisement of the regular Dish menu.

I’m surprised you’re surprised by now. They’ve been cheapening the weekday offering for ages now, apart from in terms of price. Avanti too, although at least they don’t have the nerve to specifically advertise their inferior menus as exciting and improved. Then again, at least LNER don’t try and cram you into half a carriage as a thanks for spending the extra.

The days of Virgin Trains and Virgin Trains East Coast are those I look back on as much happier times, and I’m glad I took as many first class trips with them as I did.

I think it's probably worth feeding back that the vast majority of their customers aren't doing Veganuary and would have welcomed a more interesting selection. As it is it looks like they're shoving a fairly unpopular idea down their customers throats in a completely transparent attempt to save money. I suppose we should just be glad they haven't jumped on the dry January bandwagon and removed all the booze

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
They've already had this feedback from me and I got the inevitable cut paste response. It would not surprise me to learn that they are in fact getting paid to do this and and that the best we can hope for is that they don't turn around and say it's been so successful that they're carrying it on indefinitely. Mind you I suppose as a way of of trying to claim that first class catering is unwanted and unpopular they might have have justifiable way to do it in this shambles

There's plenty of tasty vegan food around - Veganuary doesn't have to mean a lowering of quality. The sausage roll is ok, but half the size of the meat version. They've also halved the size of the tasty flapjack, which was already quite small.

You made that joke on the 10th, too.

Apologies. Since I'm actually doing dry January I find I can think of little else. Terrible month for any of it.

In terms of the vegan menu, I absolutely agree that you can do good vegan food, and it can be quite expensive, as it is when I do it at home. I don't think they have done that though. Meanwhile they appear to have eliminated vegetarian but not vegan options altogether. I dread to think what the allergy situation is like with stuff like vegan mayonnaise sneaking in.

But no eggs, milk, butter, cheese, honey? That's a step too far for me!

The "bare handful" is the vast majority of southbound trains up to about 0830 start (except the Middlesborough, sorry!). The number of Dine trains in the evening is much the same as it was pre Covid and indeed pre Azuma, though the actual trains have changed (last in September when my preferred 1833 lost out :( ).

It's not much good if the service they've cut it from is the train you are using. Thankfully I don't have to travel every Monday down from Hull to London anymore but, when I did, the full breakfast on the 07:00 on Monday and the full dinner on the 17:18 on Friday were treats I often looked forward to. Now both are Dish rather than Dine.

What if you’re travelling northbound?

Onboard Avanti West Coast Service due to leave at 1910 bound for Sandwell& Dudley after all the chaos at Euston this evening.

Will report on that thread how it compares.

Lounge at Euston has already surpassed anything LNER could offer( to the best of my knowledge) Proper Cappuccino made by a barista and a "Rodda" Clotted Cream Tea !!

Sorry, I commented on that (dire for breakfast unless you're going to a conference in Harrogate) but managed to delete the text.

The lounge at KGX wasn't much cop either last time I was there (in the summer), but it has never been brilliant.

KGX lounge is good in as much as you're not waiting on the concourse or spending money in one of the outlets but what I would expect more for a first class lounge in this day and age I think

Having not been in it for a couple of years how does it compare to EUS ?

It seems to get redesigned regularly. It's busier these days than I've ever known it, especially at off-peak times, but there's just crisps, biscuits, water and tea/coffee.

I think the last time I visited the KX 1st class lounge might have been when EC were giving passes for Rewards points.
