On the 15:21 LM service to Euston out of Stafford and coming up to Colwich Junction when the Manchester to Euston Pendolino passed us but both me and my brother counted the carriages and saw it only had eight cars! (including the front and end locos)

Which Pendolino is this that has dropped a coach and for what reason?

I suspect you both mis-counted. They don't have locos either, they are units.

All Pendolinos have nine cars except 390054, which has eleven. No Pendolinos have "dropped" a carriage.

(Strictly 390033 has only two carriages which are at Crewe at VT's Talent Academy...)

Actually some have before when there have been incedents, 390008(?) ran around as an 8 car set after a derailment at Oxley

There are no reports of any short-formed Class 390 sets (for at least the last seven days)

Deffo didn't miscount, including both ends of the Pendo, there were only eight in total

There are some Pendos that I can eliminate straight away. It wasn't 390005, 390052 or 390004. It wasn't 390009 because that was on the Pendo drag to Holyhead and it wasn't 390045 either

So at wit's end as to which it was

I'm afraid it appears you have miscounted mate, a quick google brings up nothing at all regarding this issue. I'm surprised you could count them at speed, they fly past you on the Wcml

IPT, it really does sound as if you've miscounted. As far as I am aware there are no 8-car 390's running at the moment. It would be a lot easier to accept you miscounted!

What made you count them? I'm a regular at Stafford (there most days) and have not noticed a shortened set running about

If i had miscounted, I wouldn't have put it up here and queried it

As far as I am concerned, and my brother who was with me at the time, I counted eight, one front unit, six carriage units and one end unit

Basic maths people:

1+6+1=8

He counted eight, I counted eight.

If none of you don't believe me, fine but please do not try and discredit what I have said as miscounting because that more than anything gets on my tits and really gets me mad

Why does this remind me of the thread about the London Midland mark 2 carriages? :D

I am not saying the opening poster is wrong by the way, but it does seem an unusual occurrence that surely would have been reported through other means.

More like the "Virgin Super Voyager on a Corss Country" service mystery.

Ian- what would it take for you to accept that your brother and yourself both managed to miscount?

IPT, there's no need to take this type of attitude towards members of the forum what so ever.

Just because you do not agree with what others have said in response to your OP, it doesn't mean you can "rubbish" their comments.

My view on this topic, is that I tend to get a very good general feeling about every member of the forum, based on the quality of their postings/how helpful they are to others, and 99% of the time, I have a positive impression of him/her. However, the type of attitude which you appear to be taking at the moment IPT, by no means makes me feel positively about your contribution to the forum, because of your negative attitude towards other members. You asked them for information regarding your "8-car sighting", and they have 100% correctly stated that no Pendos are currently 8-car.

I just don't see why you feel that you need to take this approach on the forum at all.

He does seem to come up with some compelling things he see's such as a 8 car pendo or a VT Voyager on a XC Service. And he always gets angry when someone proves him wrong, It's a shame he didn't log the number of the unit then we could of checked for sure :D

I was going to say that last night, but I thought I'd wait until it turned from an 8 car Pendolino into a LM HST again. :p

IPT always takes this kind of attitude to people who don't agree with him, unfortunately.

As I've said before IPT, don't take things so personally. People are just pointing out that you and your brother may have made a mistake. It's nothing to be embarrassed or mad about. The only thing doing you no favours is your overreaction to the suggestion.

Okay, okay..................

So when you see 390044 with it's eight unit formation at the moment due to problems with one of it's first class cars as far as the bogie wheels are concerned, please feel free to come back to me and say that :)

Many thanks to the very helpful customer services staff at Virgin for the information

All those for apologies, please form the orderly queue :)
