Hi all, just wondering if anyone has a similar problem to me. Multiple bus stops in my local area have no timetable attached to them, and I know nowadays you can look online but a lot of the time the online timetables only show the times for the major stops. It does irk me slightly because how are people supposed to differentiate between in use and out of use bus stops? There are plenty of out-of-use bus stops in my town, all without timetables, so I always wonder how they expect people to identify which ones are in use, and how to know the bus times. Even some brand new bus stop signs that were installed on the new build estate opposite my estate have no timetables!

Falkirk Council... particularly routes F49/F45. Just a generic note in the in-town display cases (nothing in rural ones) apologising for lack of current timetables and a promise to rectify as soon as possible.

Given the L1, F45 are rumoured to be getting cut in October and possibly the F49 as well - I doubt the display cases will ever get current timetables in them now.

Same for Scottish Borders Council area as in Falkirk except for some stops along Borders Buses X62 and stops along the A702 on Houston’s 101/102.

Some of the rural stops with bus shelters still had branding for Central Regional Council on the shelters!

So I don't think things see much attention.

I suppose a lot of these rural routes are beyond resources to regularly manage the signage on.

Therefore you see reports at times where sone villages have taken it upon themselves to put up hand-made timetables.

In my area there are a few operators, one of which is Trent Barton. At all stops that their routes serve, there is a timetable and a Trent flag. The problem is that a lot of these stops are also served by other operators, but their timetables aren’t displayed because the timetable display cases have been ‘commandeered’ by Trent with no indication that the other services stop there.

The bus stop down the road to me (Served by London route 51 mainly) original signage got removed and replaced about 6 years ago, and I believe it used to have an old timetable (that has since been changed) When it got new signage it didn’t have timetable information (and still lacks it today, source: my own eyes). However, given that for me it’s London, TfL probably just assumes everyone has an app that has the timetable on it.

Was in Falkirk last week. Was appalled at the state of the bus stops there.

Dundee also hasn’t updated most of their timetables since Covid except at key stops in the centre… and worse on several routes the old timetables weren’t even removed! Service 29 is still advertised in Lochee despite it not existing!

Always find it an issue when operators take over stops from Local Authorities. It’s what’s happened in Falkirk and we already know about the situation there.

Quite a number of bus stops in Aberdeen still have Grampian Regional Council branding. Most rural routes shouldn’t be beyond resources though… Angus and Perth & Kinross are able to timetable all of their routes even in the most rural parts so there’s no excuse for councils to not update timetables, well, that is if they are funded properly.

Almost none of the stops in Cambridge have timetables anymore. Just Stagecoach's "It's covid, check our website" signs

Merseytravel are quite good at this, and/or indicating when a bus stop is out of use. But not uniformly so, and it's often the stops in out of the way places with infrequent services that are missed. What they are not good at doing is providing maps and signage to connecting routes. As for electronic announcements and displays on board... lamentable!

Very common in Somerset for even urban stops to have no timetable information. I can think of quite a few in Yeovil and Bridgwater with no info on

Many in West Yorkshire particularly out in the sticks still have faded signs apologising for the lack of a timetable due to COVID

Before the pandemic all stops used to have a timetable.

Most North Wales councils have no bus stop timetable or extremely outdated timetables.

Mold Bus Station doesn't even have a stand list so that you know which stand to catch your bus at, you have to just guess which of the 6 stands it is.

No bus stops in our village, so no timetable. Bustimes.org has the bus stop in the wrong place (operators fault, not bustimes fault).
This stop on Roundhay Road in Leeds has the timetable case but no contents, no perspex 'window' - just an empty box. Quality.

I alighted at an admittedly relatively remote station ‘somewhere in England’ the other day and was pleased to find a bus stop close by. Sadly the timetable showed me that I’d just missed the once-daily bus so I didn’t wait.

It was such a quiet spot that you could imagine that no-one had disturbed it for 20 years.

Oh, the timetable was dated 2003 by the way.

Timetables at every stop in the West Midlands, as far as I can tell, not that the service often runs to them.

Most of the bus stops in my area are poorly maintained in general. I also wish that there were more shelters, there are only about 4 in my entire town, there are a few more but they are out of use. Several of the bus stop flags still have the logos of Midland Fox and Stevenson's which both became arriva country in 1997! I just wish more though was put into these things. It's doesn't leave a good impression of public transport when your local bus stop is a bent and sun bleached flag on a pole that's seen better days with no timetable or information in site.

In lieu of timetables which seem to be beyond the wit of many operators/councils, it’d be nice to have a list of routes and primary destinations so you know you’re at the right stop.

Very few operators impress in this department. I rarely rely on printed timetables as they could be hopelessly out of date - bustimes.org all the way for me.

Nexus - the Passenger Transport Executive in Tyne & Wear is one organisation that really excels in bus stop timetables. The vast majority of bus stops have up to date, clear information and PDFs can be found online. See example https://liners.nexus.org.uk/29015.pdf

Not the operator's fault. The NaPTAN (National Public Transport Access Nodes) database of bus stops is maintained by Local Transport Authorities (probably West Yorks PTE if I have understood the location described here) and it is that database which feeds Bustimes, Google maps and so on.

Operator is North Yorkshire County Council.
