This is a *great* deal, esp as it's any off peak train, not an advance ticket.
This is an amazing offer, delighted it's back - will definitely use it, was great last year for a cheap trip to ride the metros in London, only problem is that on Sundays the train is full to the brim on the entire WAML

The Northern newspaper offer is back: Newspaper Offer.

Full details in the link
Yes, and rather oddly it would appear that you need three tokens from National World owned newspapers but only two from Reach plc owned papers. I wonder why this is.

I suppose the ticket office staff might be puzzled if you produce a National World booking form at a station in an area where only Reach plc papers are on sale, or vice versa.

That's been the case as far back as I can remember - though I can't tell you why.

Are Reach newspapers more expensive, or published less frequently?

Can you use Promise to Pay from a unstaffed Northern station for the newspaper offer?
Pretty sure the answer to that is no. The offer is only available at staffed stations, not from TVMs or onboard.

Yes. The FAQs direct you to to finding a staffed station on the Northern network to purchase a ticket and T&C 7 states "Affix 3 tokens from participating newspapers to the application form and take to any staffed station within the Northern network. The tickets for this offer cannot be purchased on trains." Also note "Tickets can be purchased up to three days in advance of travel."

I think the only time you could argue that a Promise to Pay may be appropriate is if the ticket office is closed at a time when it's supposed be open.

Though practically in that case you wouldn't have a Promise to Pay anyway, as the TVMs would be set not to issue them (they aren't set up to offer PtP outside of opening hours, it's either off or on).

Interesting. Thanks for the replies. That’s the thing with Alfreton it’s supposed to be staffed for much of the day it in recent months it’s regularly been closed in the afternoon. It’s not really the customers fault if it’s advertised as open but then it’s closed

If you're an Amazon Prime member you can this week buy Uber gift vouchers at 15 per cent less than face value, which you can then use to buy GB rail tickets in the Uber app, gaining in turn 10 per cent of the ticket price back as Uber credits (to buy more train tickets...)

And if you buy the Uber vouchers with a Chase card for 1 per cent cashback, that adds up to an effective 26 per cent saving on your rail travel.

Until 14th October TfW Rail's multiflex deal (12 journeys for the price of six within three months of purchase) is available to buy.

If you can't get Uber gift cards discounted via an employer's scheme, next best offer is Airtime Rewards which gives 4% back on Uber gift cards

Last day of the Hare Fare (large discounts on off peak day return, Greater Anglia) but still valid to book ahead until around the end of the week
question: Is there any way to get a travelcard (London Z1-6) onto the hare fare without the price more than doubling?

Word of advice to whoever wants to take advantage of the 15% gift card discount - do it ASAP, because Uber will end the offer early (like with their recent Amazon promotion) if demand is particularly high!

Grand Central have a sale on - up to 60 seats per day on the two services a day that are operated by their Super Voyagers in the month of November. That’ll be the 10:23 from Bradford Mondays to Saturdays, and the 15:12 on Sundays. Returning from London, it’s the 14:56 Mondays to Fridays, 16:27 on Saturdays, and the 18:53 on Sundays:

Are there any railcard discount codes at the moment?

Mine's expired and I want a new three year one ideally, but I'm 24 in January so I'd rather not buy it until then. But could do with a railcard in the meantime ideally. £30 for around two months worthwhile usage feels a bit steep though.

I reckon it'll work out best if you just buy a 3 year one now tbh

You can get 20% cashback from https://www.topcashback.co.uk/thetrainline/ if you are a new customer for The TrainLine and buy a railcard (7% if you are an existing customer).

To get cashback sites to track, I would use a different WWW browser to the one that you use for normal browsing (ie Edge instead of Chrome), and let it save all the cookies that it wants.

Anyone who uses the Lidl app can get £5 off a train or other travel ticket over £65.

It’s in the partner offer section.

New Trip.com users (or at least new accounts!) can get £10.50 off Digital Railcard purchases through them - so a year long Digital Railcard is £19.50.

Follow this link:
https://uk.trip.com/trains/eurotrains/railcard/home

The £10.50 off discount should pop up on screen - you need to click on the button to claim it, then go on and register a new account with Trip.com.

No problem.

Best to be aware that the Trip.com app is a bit cr@p, much like the TrainPal app (TrainPal is a subsidiary of the Trip.com company) - there's a previous discussion about it here (that I initiated!):
Trip.com Digital Railcards

I'd familiarise yourself with where the Digital Railcard lives in their (spammy) app, and take a screenshot of your Railcard just in case - do note that screenshots of Digital Railcards are not officially accepted, however it might be useful to have one just in case, should you have any problems with the app.

Useful for me as I've cancelled & rebooked a ticket for January time to save £12.50. Every little helps as they say

The 10% credit rebate on train travel with Uber has been extended (yet again) from 31 December 2023 to 29 February 2024

On iOS at least, there have been some improvements to the rail booking interface in the Uber app, including the ability to add tickets to the Apple Wallet.
