Who has internet from BT and found that your internet speed has dropped all of a sudden? Well mine has :(. I contacted BT and they said that they need to disable my connection for 3 days to enable the speeds to get higher again:/.
I should be getting 4 - 6 Mb/s, I am getting 0.50mb/s...

I was with BT and was quite disappointed with the speed - my parents are with BT and have had no problems though, and seem to have quite a fast connection.

I'm now with ADSL24:

but it's my phone line itself which is letting things down (and is supplied and rented from BT!) - can't cope at all well with voice calls and broadband for some reason.

Why am I only learning about this now? When I've been complaining for months about my poor connection? I *think* our connection is supposed to be an 8MB connection; even at this time of day, when it tends to run fairly quickly (will try again in the evening if I remember)...

At half 2 I'd expect it to be almost as fast as overnight. Chokepoints are usually 7-9am and 5-7pm. It's part of the reason why I leave any hefty downloads (legal downloads, like linux disc images) I let it run overnight

The best internet of course is a University network, Speedtest reports about 90mb/s which is somewhat, fast.

It's seems I'm quite lucky with a 20.35 down, 2.62 up (B+).

Doesn't seem that fast.

(Not as lucky as Geezertronic, clearly).

*ahem*:D

( Well, OK, I've cheated - this is not a BT line; it's a direct fibre optic link which is actually moderated down to a maximum of 100... )

Edit - could only post it as a .docx; I realise not everyone can open this ( I can't at home! ) - if one of the mods is able to extract the image and turn it into a directly posted picture, please feel free to go ahead and do so.

Totally agree - I think I can download something off the internet quicker than I can access my hard drive - for real!

What I love about BE is their fair usage - 300GB* in one month isn't a problem

*surprisingly legal content - was having issues and had to reinstall the PC a few times (turned out to be a dead MoBo) - Steam games are huge!

I guess I won't complain.

This is via my Cable provider - also have TV service through them, but not phone.

I paid for 10, the basic amount. For extra money I can get 20, 30, or 50.
Never needed that much as things are pretty fast as is.

Not when I was in my first year in halls, although teaching everyone how to get around the P2P block might have had something to do with it...

Just tried it again, and, well...

Ouch! Assuming you're not in a small hamlet miles from anywhere then that speed is very poor indeed.

Have you got neighbours with broadband and if so what's their speed like? Might be time for a change of provider or a swift kick up their collective wotsits to sort out what must be a problem.

2km due south of Bath city centre and roughly the same again from the city perimeter. I have repeatedly told my housemate (the contract is in her name courtesy of her phone ) to get it sorted, but there's little point now - it's up in two months.

I'm second last :(

I suspect this is due to poor line quality from the house to the exchange

Update (1:30am)

Pretty much the same

edit: although I've dropped into 3rd last thanks to Ivo's appalling speed

My Broadband is annoyingly sporadic.

One month it is 9Mbps, the next it is less than 0.5Mbps.
