Robin Hood scheme and real time passenger information, I ask why is the workplace levy funding not covering this? The workplace levy is ringfenced for public transport.
The WPL is likely being used to replace non-WPL funding. Being ringfenced for public transport just means that specific cash cannot be spent on other things, it doesn't stop you withdrawing your other spending and using the ringfenced money instead.

I agree and I think TrentBarton are very well aware of this which is why they left Indigo and I4 at Friar Lane after Broadmarsh opened.
Exactly. In my opinion, Broadmarsh was pointless. Okay it's good for National Express which seems to be the only coach operator to serve BM. Flixbus still stops around the corner and I believe Megabus is still going from outside the train station. Without the shopping centre it doesn't really have a purpose. I wish they would've split the money between improvements to Victoria and Making Friar Lane/Angel Row better for people waiting.

Back before Broadmarsh was shut and the centre was demolished it was always extremely busy, but now you'tr lucky to get 20 people at the same time. It really is a shadow of its former self and the bays are pretty dismal (plenty of accidents to prove the layout is poor).

It would be interesting to see what specifically the workplace parking levy is funding as there are at least 2 things above which it should be spent.

Isn't Broadmarsh under an exclusivity agreement with National Express for access? It certainly seems so with the facilities available like NatEx ticket machines and staff. Would there even be enough capacity for Flixbus and Megabus to move into those stands given it's only 2 stands and they are pretty heavily used by NatEx.

If it's' not already published, I suspect that'd just need a Freedom of Information query.

Is it legal to restrict operators from using a bus station?

Wellglade have applied for Hydrogen funding in the governments new scheme for cleaner & greener travel, with Sixes, Skylink Derby/Nottingham & Skylink express all suggested forward for the funding.
On that theme, Derbyshire County Council has partnered with Stagecoach Yorkshire to bid for electric buses for Stonegravel depot in Chesterfield.

Wellglade have applied for Hydrogen funding in the governments new scheme for cleaner & greener travel, with Sixes, Skylink Derby/Nottingham & Skylink express all suggested forward for the funding.
Here is what it says in full:

People across Derby could soon be able to make greener, cleaner journeys on key bus routes after plans to bid for Government funding were given the green light.

On 6 December, Cabinet and bus operators approved a recommendation to submit a bid for funding from the second tranche of the Department for Transport's Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas scheme (ZEBRA 2).

The scheme was launched last year to allow local transport authorities to bid for funding to purchase zero-emission buses. ZEBRA 2 is now open for bids from all local authorities in England outside London, with applications to be prioritised from those that haven’t previously received funding, such as Derby.

Buses and coaches already have the lowest carbon footprint per passenger of any form of motorised transport.

Now, working with bus company partners trentbarton and Arriva, the Council is developing plans that would replace diesel buses and provide infrastructure on four bus routes and reduce carbon emissions further.

Councillor Carmel Swan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Transport and Sustainability said:

Delivering better transport choices for Derby is a key priority. It is an ambition of the Council to work on future fuels that will both drive down our carbon emissions and offer environmentally-friendly transport options for all residents and visitors to Derby.
Good air quality is hugely important to everyone and the Council recognises that zero-emission buses can make a significant contribution to meeting our climate goals. We must also cut air pollution, reduce noise and provide more frequent, reliable bus services.
The scheme proposed by trentbarton includes buying hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to replace the diesel bus fleet on two services:

  • the sixes between Derby, Belper, Ripley and Bakewell
  • the skylink, including skylink Derby, skylink Nottingham and skylink express
The scheme would also include infrastructure to produce and store hydrogen at trentbarton’s depot in Derby city centre.

Hydrogen buses have been introduced in Aberdeen, Birmingham, London, Belfast, and Dublin. The buses are as efficient as electric equivalents, with refuelling taking less than 10 minutes.

Tom Morgan, Managing Director of trentbarton said:

This bid marks significant investment in buses within the East Midlands and most specifically in Derby City, reiterating trentbarton’s commitment to high quality, customer-focused and sustainable public transport within the community we serve.
If granted, this bid will deliver a consistent long-term demand for hydrogen in the area which we expect will be the key to unlocking further growth in this future fuel, accelerating our decarbonisation strategy, with buses at the heart of it, and resulting in cleaner air for everyone.
Arriva’s scheme proposes to replace diesel buses with electric vehicles on two routes to Alvaston and Sinfin as well as infrastructure for charging the vehicles at the Arriva depot on Ascot Drive in Derby.

Each new bus won’t give off any exhaust fumes, helping to improve air quality across the city.

Phil Cummins, Engineering Director for Arriva said:

It is our ambition as a business to make sustainable bus transport the best option for people and we are excited to be working together to pitch for Government funding, which has the potential to bring electric vehicles to Derby.

In terms of the Trent Barton plans, that would mean moving both Skylink Nottingham and Skylink express from Nottingham depot to Derby depot. You’d think it’d result in a fair bit of dead mileage though, especially with the 24 hour operation. You often see them swapping out buses in Nottingham.

The sixes raises a few eyebrows, can zero emission buses last a full day given how long and hilly the route is?

I believe Loughborough is suggested to have the hydrogen pumps(?) installed, with Nottingham having the same & then Derby being done for the sixes.

personally I don't think Meadow RD could handle anymore upgrades, maybe its time for trent to make use of Stores Rd permanently

Does anyone know what these are (sorry about the low quality - phone image zoomed in a lot). There must be at least eight parked behind the Arriva depot on Ascot Drive in Derby and they’ve been there several weeks now.

They look like electric buses for Leicester. The low height version of the Wrightbus Electroliner. I believe they’ve been launched recently

They are the incoming low height StreetDeck Electroliners on order for Arriva in Leicester, which was discussed/mentioned in the old Arriva thread.
Presumably they are just being stored awaiting entry into service.

Thanks folks - I did consider new electric vehicles but as Derby isn’t in line for any I presumed mis-assumption on my part. Now all is clear.

I wondered if they were the 8 electric buses that TrentBarton announced they had received funding for in 2019 (intended for the Mickleover service) which were then never mentioned again :)

https://www.trentbarton.co.uk/news-and-media/our-news/article/electricbuses2019

Government support for the partial funding of eight battery-powered buses has been earmarked for trentbarton after we secured £1.5m from the Department for Transport's Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme.

If everything goes to plan, Nottingham City Transport's first batch of 12 Yutong E12s will enter service on 29th January.

They will enter service on 30/39/50, with two spares which will hopefully make their way onto a variety of Services.

I must say I’m quite looking forward to trying them

Have any buses or depots suffered damage from the recent flooding in the Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire areas?

Trentbarton's depot in Derby wasn't affected this time luckily! CT4N's depot at Queen's Drive was flooded but I'm not sure where they keep the buses, but there was enough notice so I'm sure none of the buses were damaged.

Presumably Sherwood depot (ex-NCT).

I’ve recently been seeing a lot of out of service CT4N buses coming down Meadow Lane towards the County ground, I think they were coming off the Colwick Loop road. I saw two of the BYD electrics following one another with a diesel Solo a bit further back on Thursday. My first thought was that they were possibly storing some buses at the Colwick P&R site but I haven’t been down to check

I think that's probably true, as I saw a X post last time when there was flooding that said: 'the CT4N staff shuttle to Colwick P&R will no longer run'

Not that I've heard up here in North Notts but with the A631 closed until yesterday under the railway bridge at Bawtry, SEM services 27 and 98 were diverting via Ranskill where the diverted traffic, including HGVs and buses, has had a significant impact on the already pot-holed roads with a lot of reported car tyre blow-outs and a truck went off into a ditch yesterday.

The Medilink fleet (at least the BYDs & two Versas) is currently on the edge of the Racecourse P&R (next to some charging points it appears), and also inside the Racecourse compound itself.

I've always wondered if these large green cabinets on the exit slip road were "emergency" chargers? IIRC the buses are stored next to them when the P&R is closed so it doesn't matter if they (the buses) get in the way. Distance between them seems about right.

Another addition to the Arriva Derby fleet is 3737 MX09 LXT in the newer Arriva Sapphire livery. Presumably this has followed 3738-40 from Liverpool.

This one has a slightly different history to the others. It was displaced from Bolton depot upon Go North West’s takeover with the Bee Network, and transferred to Telford in September alongside 3735 and 3736. The trio were briefly together at Tamworth at the start of this month, with 3737 now moved onto Derby. At Tamworth they’ve allowed the final Scania Omnilinks to be stood down, although 3511 has moved to Derby. Presumably plans have changed several times, 3736 was loaned to Tamworth during November last year too!

Arriva Derby news;

3511 seems to be permanent, it came from Tamworth for scrap preparations & had a new MOT & was pressed into service.
3560 has been withdrawn, the engine seized back in December & it has now been decided that it will be scrapped
3738 has been put into journey mark, assumingly it was rushed through due to the all over advert "give the bus a chance"

trent barton
462 & 482 have both been withdrawn, 827 is expected to enter service a Derby.
499 has transferred to notts+derby, the first solo SR to leave trent barton.
