Is a super off peak return or single between Haymarket and London valid on weekend and bank holiday LNER trains between Edinburgh Waverley and London Kings Cross. Buying tickets to/from Haymarket saves a considerable bit of money compared to buying tickets to/from Waverley. Since you’d have to go through Waverley anyway if you get on at Haymarket, is it valid from Waverley?

Yes, it is valid but be aware that at some point I expect Haymarket fares to move to the same structure as those used at Waverley, thus closing the loophole.

Presumably that won’t happen before the end of the month.

There's no way of knowing what LNER might do but if you are certain of your travel plans then I would purchase sooner rather than later.

There is still a return fare from Croy to London that is valid via Edinburgh - for now at least.
But that isn't a Haymarket to London Super Off Peak fare, which is exactly what the OP referred to.

I think it's reasonable to assume that they're likely to extend the "trial" pricing to cover at least Haymarket/Manors - Kings Cross, given how much they've been mentioned as a way of getting around it for Edinburgh/Newcastle - Kings Cross. It's just a question of when they do so.

Agreed!

Absolutely. As I said upthread, if travel plans are known then I wouldn't delay purchase.

LNER claimed tickets from Haymarket are not valid from Waverley.

They are incorrect in claiming so (unless it's an Advance, but we aren't talking about those). The tickets permit Break of Journey and are valid via Waverley, thus you can start/end short there if you so wish.

In any case, how exactly, particularly if you book it as a paper ticket, do they propose knowing whether you actually did start at Haymarket or not? Waverley has multiple separate gatelines.

TBH I've always struggled with how grossly incompetent this aspect of the trial has been. I get that they can't prevent people splitting (the way to prevent that was going to be to have faster Edinburgh trains so create fewer splitting opportunities) and there will always be less obvious workarounds unless and until this becomes a national policy, but it seems bizarre that they didn't do it for all flows related to Edinburgh, Newcastle and Berwick to/from Kings X and Stevenage rather than just those individual specific ones, as sale of Haymarket/Manors tickets will have made a right mess of their statistics and people were always going to work that out quite quickly.

Can you give more detail - what was the context? Was this said in writing or verbally? Was the ticket held a Haymarket to London Terminals Anytime or Super Off-Peak Single (or vice versa)?

The 70 min flex is expanding for journeys taken from 30-9-24 onwards... Haymarket included...

Tee hee, I did think some of the replies above kind of nodded at that. Best book now, as once the ticket is issued it can't be rescinded.

Is there a list anywhere of where it's expanding to? (Maybe best post that on the other thread).

Too late for that, new fares as of 30th September live as of overnight last night. Anyway, let's move discussion of the development to the correct thread please

How does the connection part not provided by LNER work as part of that? I thought that ScotRail frequently block through Advance reservations onto the long distance operators on their reservable trains.

Looking at 2 October, a number of connections from London to Haymarket on the LNER booking engine where the only ticket is the Anytime single, because the Scotrail reservation isn't available for the last mile.
