Sorry if wrong thread but can remember seeing a discussion on speed changes (increases) being moved to happen when the front of a train reaches the board rather than rear clearing.

Has this been implemented or still under review / testing?

It's only in certain circumstances, such as when the speed exists for a foot crossing or signal sighting.

They have been implemented, the former type exist in Anglia for example and the latter at Bristol TM.

Ordinary increases still apply only once the rear of the train has cleared the section.

This only applies in a few specific cases where an A board (standing for accelerate) has been placed next to the speed board. After trials it is now in the rule book and can be applied to speed restrictions where appropriate.

For the every other (the vast majority) speed change the driver has to estimate the length of their train.

Maybe this is the thread you were thinking of?

It's in the amendments in module SP that come into force this month. If the PSR sign is accompanied by an 'A', or the 'T' board for a TSR or ESR is replaced with an 'A' board then you accelerate when the front of the train reaches the board. If there isn't an 'A' then the rear of the train must be clear before accelerating.

Thanks for the replies.
I presume will just then be a rolling plan if works near a location then review for A board placement.

Would imagine that make some notable time savings on some sections

Yeah it's just when an A board is fitted along with the PSR. Only one I've seen on my routes are at Bradford Forster Square.

Has any though been given to placing additional signs after speed boards to mark when trains of a specific length are clear, as is done on some lines in Japan?
