it went quite well i think they still had some interviews to do and said i should know by next week hopefully i could see the list of people getting interviewed on there desk and they only seemed to be interviewing 8 or 9 people for 4 places so fingers crossed

Thats positive news! It's just waiting that's the killer now, a phonecall from NR is what you want, but an email ain't so good :( I reckon there was about 4 people including myself being interviewed for 2 track positions, fingers crossed too!

The depot round by the panel?? i had to walk down the side of 2 buildings.. is that what you mean?

Sorry, the signal box (signalling centre) right down the side of the station. You walk past the Ibis and Thistle hotels, the road curves left and the depot's on the corner.

I'm not sure, I think that building's part of the signalling centre. I know where you're talking about now though.

Just to help ease my nerves a bit, could anyone who's had an interview perhaps just give an idea of the examples they used for some of the questions. I have a few in my head but i want to make sure they are comprehensive enough.

Thanks.

I didnt get asked a lot that was in the email but i prepared the examples for them just in case... (not gonna be exact cuz i cant really remember)

Taking responsibility- I went on site for work experience and had to take responsibility not only for my health and safety but also for other workers

An example of learning something new- 'The way I see it I learn somethin new everyday but an example is when i went to college to do my electrical installation course'

When people have had to rely on me- In my current job we rely on each other to turn up for work or it makes everyone elses job difficult... Also if somebody phones in sick im the first person they ring to cover the shift.

My answers were quite short and he liked the fact i didnt waffle on (he told me that after the interview) if u keep them short u can always expand on them if asked to. When your in the interview you will be less nervous and it will flow, aslong as u have some information around the points so it looks less rehearsed youll be ok!

I had my interview on Wednesday. One of the interviewers said I was the second (who was the first?) most confident (I didn't feel it) person he'd ever interviewed. They were both very positive and said I stood a good chance.

They also said that even though they themselves would make a decision by that evening, I would probably not find out for around a month as it has to be put through the officials :(

Crikey, a month?! The guys said to me I would hear back shortly! I wouldn't say a month is a short period. Nothing we can do but wait I suppose. Good luck anyways, hope you are successful!

They said up to a month, they said it should be a lot shorter but they couldn't promise :(

Good luck to you also. We'll have to meet up if we both get in :)

Thank you for your recent application to Network Rail's Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme.

As you know, we were impressed with your performance at the Assessment Centre and you met the benchmark for this stage of the process. However we have experienced an extremely high quality of candidates at Assessment Centre this year and as a result we now have more candidates in certain locations than we have positions available for interview. To ensure a fair recruitment process we have invited the top performers from the Assessment Centre in the first instance. I regret to inform you that unfortunately your score was not in the top percentile, therefore we are now unable to progress your application to the next stage for entry onto this years' scheme.

We apologise for the disappointment that this may cause you and would very much like to keep your details on our active candidate database to be considered for our 2012 intake. Should there be vacancies in your desired area in 2012 we will be in touch to let you know how to apply before we open next years' campaign for other candidates. You will be required to fill in a fresh application form however, as you have passed the Assessment Centre stage already, your results will remain valid for one year, meaning you will not be required to re-sit the Assessment Centre in 2012. Your application will be treated as a priority. If you do not wish to be on this database please let us know by emailing [email protected].

Once again, we apologise for this regrettable situation. If you have any questions regarding this then please feel free to call Melissa Carlile on 0207 557 8405.
Yours sincerely,

New Entrant Programme Team

Thats annoying to say the least. I had my interview the other day, compared to how some others have said theirs went, i am beginning to fear the worst. I answered every question but felt rather nervous and perhaps didn't come across as a strong enough candidate. Im not too disheartened, it was more of a learning experience. I have an interview for another engineering apprenticeship with Southern on Monday and an assessment with First towards the end of June. The interviewers i had were fantastic and i could tell they were trying to make things less tense. Anyone else who has an interview coming up, seriously dont worry about it. The questions are pretty much the same as in the email!

Same here polo mark, I ha to book a day off work for this and also had to pay for fuel, I hope they are prepared to pay me back for this. It's a complete joke. I'm guessing ur over 20 years old because it seems they don't want to pay the extra to train people like us. Disgrace.

I'm sorry to hear that, that's terrible. I hope I don't get that email. As I said earlier, I had my assessment in March and am still waiting for my interview date, I am also 21. However, I did get an email, earlier this week, saying that they are now going to be doing interviews in to August as opposed to just May to July.

NR didn't force you to go to the assessment, if there are limited positions available at the depot you applied for, then that's unfortunately it. Some areas are overstaffed as it is, and some understaffed thanks to the above Phase 2b/c restructuring. There are many internal displacements going on to rebalance the imbalance of personnel.

That's utter rubbish. I and dozens of other apprentices were over twenty on starting, and in fact, there have been those over thirty who have been taken on.
