Think the Manchester Wayfarer used to be called the Peak Wayfarer and covered a large area, in my opinion shouldn't be called "Manchester" as it's misleading - really sounds like it should appy to Manchester or Greater Manchester only. Also note the Wayfarer bus region is greater than the rail area, as it's possible to get as far as Burnley by bus but not train! The Manchester Wayfarer's rail validity extends to Grindleford, only 2 miles away from the Sheffield boundary, 2/3 of the way through Totley Tunnel! On buses it can get you as far as Crich and Ashbourne.
South Yorkshire don't go beyond the county boundary, not even that 2 miles underground to Grindleford.
Despite Northwich and Warrington both being within the Wayfarer region, I contacted Warrington Buses and you can't use the Wayfarer between those towns (9c bus) as you go out and back in again; which would happen in the case of getting to Burnley by rail!
