Liverpool won fairly comfortably 2-0 at Manchester City after Newcastle had beaten Nottingham Forest 4-3.

Darlington 1 v Kings Lynn 0

A good 1-0er. Ground out. First time we have beaten Lynn at home. Bit of a bogey team for us. 15th clean sheet of the season apparently. We don't score many but we don't concede many!

Sevco fans getting all excited by the takeover, as though they won’t just become a feeder club for L666s.
This potential take over is a good thing but no one is getting carried away and expecting the glory days to return immediately so the rats at the midden can sleep easily for a while yet. PSR/ FFP will prevent the club going on a spending spree because of losses made every year. As for Leeds feeder club? Never gonna happen. Rangers are a bigger club than they could ever wish to be, problem is they play in a country where the cards are stacked against them through a corrupt SFA and they need to get the hell out of it but it'll never happen and I'd never want to see them in the English system anyway but that one has has been discussed to death so best left well alone.

Billy doesn't like it when he has to play by the rules. That's why your club went bust. "Corrupt SFA"? Risible. Equality seems like oppression to the privileged, and now the privilege is over. But thankfully the banter years keep rolling on... :E

Oh please. Rangers' only claim to be bigger than Leeds is because they play in a farmers' league with only one other, slightly more successful team in it. Rangers would be a total irrelevance in England, or in fact nearly any other European league. If you think the game is literally corrupt in Scotland, stop supporting Rangers - why bother? You're already on your second club anyway if you've been supporting them a while.

corrrection, the cards are stacked in their favour but due to years of financial mismanagement even this is not enough to buy success

Says the Darlo fan
at least several clubs have a chance of winning our league. How do you celebrate winning another title when there is no competition? They are meaningless. Utterly bereft of value.

We all know it isn't going to change but from the outside the whole SPL situation is a joke.

I agree with your point but it's not just a Scottish thing. Several leagues round Europe have become polarised to a similar extent, with titles and trophies shared between a decreasing number of clubs, usually those with continuing access to TV riches through qualifying and re-qualifying for the Champions League. The English Premier League was set up to make money for its members precisely because of the anticipated boom in TV coverage. Ditto the Champions League which, let's not forget, rewards disproportionately those clubs from "larger TV markets". And here we are.

Germany and France are arguably worse being effective Bayern and PSG monopolies (with occasional others winning the league, Dortmund/Leverkusen etc).

At least Scotland is in normal times a duopoly. The concern would be that no one else has won the title since Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen 40 years ago.

I remember Dundee Utd winning it once although it might not have been the Premier.

I think they even beat Barcelona in Europe.

Have to laugh, Barry Ferguson has been appointed Head Coach until the end of the season, his management CV is so (not) impressive, Clyde (then in the bottom league), Kelty Hearts (then non-league although granted, he did get them promoted into the league and then left) and Alloa Athletic (third tier). He has never been slow to voice his opinion on what is wrong at Ibrox, this is his chance to put everything right! The world is watching!

Dundee United record v Barcelona played 4, won 4
(1966 and 1987 - but still impressive)

However the majority of clubs in the Premier League have zero chance of winning it (despite Leicester City's achievement in 2016) and what happened in 1977-78, with Clough's Nottingham Forest being promoted from the Second Division and winning the First Division the following season will never happen again. Indeed, it is far more likely that most, if not all the clubs promoted to the Premier League will be relegated the next season, as may well happen this year.

Oh please. Rangers' only claim to be bigger than Leeds is because they play in a farmers' league with only one other, slightly more successful team in it. Rangers would be a total irrelevance in England, or in fact nearly any other European league.

The home attendances of both Celtic and Rangers are considerably higher than several, if not many, Premier League clubs, and were they in that League, with all the riches it brings, they would more than hold their own. But I doubt that it will ever happen (and hope it does not).

Genuinely thought you meant Barry Fry for a moment.

Manchester United have announced to make an additional 200 jobs redundant on top of 250 made redundant last year to ‘return the club to profitability’.

Now I appreciate many of these will be staff in club shops, as let’s be honest, who wants to be seen walking around wearing a Manchester United shirt nowadays…!!

To be making 450 jobs redundant, just how many staff do Manchester United employ? Many of these are probably part time and maybe worldwide, but surely off loading a couple of highly paid players would be more cost effective (contract payout clause excepted).

1140 according to the article. That sounds a lot. Although it's not clear how much they rely on contractors or agency staff for matchday.

Leeds have just come from a goal down at Bramall Lane to win 3-1 against 2nd placed Sheffield United. It looks like a 3 horse race for promotion after this week, with Leeds in pole position.
