I use to know the names of most football grounds having been to about 70 in the uk but now many have changed or added a sponsor I would've thought.

A rather lucrative sponsorship deal.

Am I right that Knighthead also own the club? So is a “lucrative” sponsorship deal for the naming rights to the ground a neat way of getting money into the club without it adding further risk to a potential breach of FFP?

Well there's not really any FFP in League One so it's no problem for this season. We're in no danger of breaking FFP should we go up anyway.

Knighthead is the company that owns the club yes, though there are rules about clubs not being able to sponsor themselves so there is no doubt some clever legal craftiness going on. But yes, it's a way for the owners to put more of their own money in an have it count on the books as revenue.

Our main revenue streams are actually with partners such as OakView Group who are the company dealing with amongst other things the new stadium project and our social media revenue (I'd recommend reading up on the social media sponsorship income streams if possible, what we've done is genius. I think prominent BCFC blogger Almajir has something on it), and our shirt sponsor LA streetwear brand Undefeated. Apparently our shirt sponsorship deal is worth more than some shirt sponsor deals in the Premier League.

Even affects lower-pyramid teams, as Hyde United in the Northern Premier League..Premier Division have changed the Ewen Fields ground name to that of the Project Solar Stadium.

Do Droylesden still have those fake plastic hawks hanging from the roof of the stands to deter pigeons?

I used to like my trips to the Manchester clubs watching Solihull back in the old Conference North days, Stalybridge especially.

St Andrews is the traditional name of the ground, the "@ Knighthead Park" was added as part of a naming rights deal with the ownership group.

Birmingham City progress to the Vertu Cup final, beating Bradford Cirty in front of a 27,000 crowd at St Andrews @ Knighthead pasrk.
An excellent attendence on a cold Tuesday night, and the 4th home game in a ten day period.

Let’s see how many go to Wembley, and if it beats 1988.

Of course Hyde actually changed the name of the entire club because of a partnership / sponsorship deal didn't they

I've had to look that up and 55,000 is mentioned a couple of times. Has any club taken more fans to Wembley than that? Okay, you would never get that sort of ticket allocation for FA / LC so this is a final where everyone has a damn good chance of getting in but that is one hell of a lot of fans to travel.

I see the game is on a Sunday so AWC might prove a problem for some with the continued industrial action.

Nearly 81000 at the 1988 Sherpa Van Trophy, 50000 Wolves fans and the rest Burnley. Wolves 2nd trip to Wembley that year!

Was that c. 2010 when they had their Manchester City makeover, which included having to drop the 'United' from the club's name?

Correct. 2010 to 2015 from memory, and the first season they ditched their traditional red shirts, but that only lasted a year

Remember FCUM were all set to take over the ground when Hyde United / FC were in financial difficulties.

No. When exactly was that? Think a link or citation is needed!
Hyde United Football Club (HUFC) was officially wound up in 2009, but was later saved from closure after an appeal.

What happened?

  • In September 2009, the High Court in London ordered HUFC to be wound up due to debts of around £122,000 to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
  • Club officials, supporters, and players raised enough money to appeal the decision.
  • The appeal was heard on September 30, 2009, and the winding-up order was rescinded.
  • Leicestershire businessman John Manship became the owner of the club.
  • Before the 2010–11 season, the club changed its name to Hyde F.C.

There is nothing in the above stating the inquiry made by FCUM to take over Ewan Fields but it certainly happened, obviously long before the club were even at the planning stage to the new place they built and were at Gigg Lane.

Hibernian 2-1 Celtic. A highly entertaining game that very much belonged to Hibs in the first half but saw them on the ropes in the second. Two big VAR calls swung the outcome, one for each side; the result could easily have gone the other way, but that's football. And the Rangers tribute act made up no ground as they were beaten at home, 2-0 by St. Mirren. Thirteen points - mind the gap.

North West Counties Football League...Premier Division

South Liverpool 0 ... Bury 1

Matches against teams fighting hard to avoid the bottom league places made this a match for Bury to be aware of and they scored in the 4th minute, but that was the only goal of the match.

This was Bury's 25th league win this season and helped to consolidate top spot in the league.

After the Scottish Cup debacle, and now this.... How on earth can Clement remain in charge?!!
I don't think that they can afford to get rid of him. He was given a new four-year contract just last season. Even the latest takeover noise is driven by their largest shareholder keen to get shot of his holding rather than genuine investment. Much straitened times for the company operating out of Ibrox.

York 2-2 FC Halifax Town

A fair result but a galling way that it happened. Somehow Halifax were 2-0 after less than three minutes; conceded from a penalty midway through the first half, and then an equaliser in the 10th minute of injury time at the end of the match. (There had also been 11 minutes in the first half after a horrible injury, so effectively the 111th minute of the game).

More worryingly, three key players ended the game injured and look like missing Tuesday's match - for once a weather / rugby / state of the Shay induced postponement would be good.

864 away fans too, which is decent for the fifth division

And in the same league Colne made it to the Isle of Man for a 1 - 1 draw. Some fans set off on Friday, almost landed - but didn't (due to wind issues) and had to return to Liverpool! Hope it's better for them tomorrow coming home!

The Bury and WD&C average attendances are higher than in the majority of the Premier League clubs of the higher level Northern Premier League.
Yesterday's matches in the North West Counties Football League...Premier Division had attendance levels rather different from each other...

An attendance of 1,142 saw West Didsbury & Chorlton beat Pilkington 3-1.

An attendance of only 64 saw Litherland REMYCA beat Charnock Richard 4-1.
