856 was the unit that also received major collision repairs after hitting a bridge at Barrow Upon Soar, I believe*. At the time of the incident, it was in Central Trains livery, when it returned to service, it had been refurbished in East Midlands Trains style. It seems this unit has a mishap every time it wants a makeover.
Yeah I recall hearing that. Unlucky old machine.

Its probably already been mentioned but is there an update on when the first 360 will go for refurb or is the regional units first then connect units?

170501 is progressing well with its refurb at Crewe depot. All seats have been removed inside and one half of the unit has lost it's purple livery. Apparently it's having some colour to do with heat so I'm told.

The doors attract a lot of solar gain in the summer, so they're looking at a reflective paint on those to try to reduce the load on the aircon.

Wasn't that the unit in Pride livery?

Thats interesting, Do we know why its specifically the grey colour on the doors that has the problem and not the dark purple on the body?

I take the so-called Luton Airport Express services fairly often and when you log in to their wifi it often says "welecome to Greater Anglia". I wonder if their refurbishment programme will extend to altering that?

It isn't the current colour at all but was built into the fleet in the 1990s at the design stage.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
I've often thought that the doors on those units feel quite hot to touch when it's sunny and higher temperatures, so this is clearly a longer term issue, would it be worth? I wonder looking at an entirely new door design and retrofitting? Or are they now too old to make it worth the money?

At least one half of 158847 is now purple with grey air dams. Picture shows the vehicle.

Just wondering, with these refurbishment have they been done slowly to ensure they get everything right the first time then they'll speed up for the rest of the fleet? Because it's taking an incredibly long time!

I would guess so. The first Avanti pendolino took well over 6 months to finish, by the end they were churning them out 1 a fortnight (?).

It’s like putting up an IKEA wardrobe - the first one takes ages as you have to follow all the instructions and workout which bits go where, which tools are best to use, and make various mistakes. By wardrobe three it takes 20 minutes.

I’ll leave others to come up with allegorical punchlines.

Amongst other issues on 501 whoever replaced the carpet for London Midland in 2008 or so glued it in such a way that the floor boarding has been destroyed in removing it and had to be replaced. They're hoping to avoid it with later units by getting some specialists in to hopefully remove the old carpet without trashing the floor beneath.

Thought so! Thanks

158847 poking its front end out of Barton Hill when I past through Bristol last night. Northing further to report other than it’s looked fully branded and probably due to head back soon (if they’ve repaired it as well).
