I can't say I have had a problem with the 170s. Not been on the 360s.
Have you travelled on EMR 170s from all former operators (ex-Transport for Wales 170/2, ex-Southern 170/4 higher numbered, ex-ScotRail 170/4 lower numbered and ex-West Midlands Railway 170/5??
The ex-Transport for Wales ones were supposedly refurbished in 2018 in their late Greater Anglia days, and they seemed alright enough to me when I travelled on them in their TfW days.
I can't speak for the ex-Southern ones as I've not travelled on them, but as I believe they were originally ScotRail ones that had moved to Southern in 2015, I believe they were refurbished then?
The ex-West Midlands Railway ones, which are very familiar to me from that operator, but of which I have travelled on a couple under EMR operation, will definitely benefit from their upcoming refurbishment from a condition point of view - the 25-year old ex-Central Trains interior with 17-year-old ex-London Midland green seat moquette is of course very much showing its age, with very worn seat moquette on the "head" parts of the seats, and very worn carpets, etc. Also, when I was on 170515 recently, two of the tip-up seats by the doors were trimmed in East Midlands Trains orange/red moquette, and the
big toilet control unit cupboard was unlocked open.
I was amused though that EMR have got the 170/5s to talk! After WMR not letting Julie Berry speak on them for years (for some reason, even though it was possible and she does on the 172s and now the 196s). I wonder if the same announcements are being put on the new EMR 170 passenger information system? They seem to be recent-ish recordings, as she says East Midlands Railway.
I've heard that the ex-ScotRail ones still have their
original interiors - does anyone here know if that's true? If so, they must surely have the worst interior condition of all of EMR's 170s?
