I've noticed there's a ROG move to Worksop with a 0Q57 back to RTC on Friday, the 93s usually running a Q headcodes.
To add to your speculation

Both 93's have just passed through Wingfield on their way to Derby behind a couple of 37's. 0Q57 due Derby at 12.15ish.

Surprised to see them booked into St Andrews; I hope the EMCC keeps a good eye on them!

Got to wait for type approval from the powers that be before they can be used in revenue earning service first.
Any clues given as to what the first revenue earning operations will be?

I imagine that all parties want to see the outcome of some loaded test runs before they even start thinking of getting contracts.

A presentation I saw highlighted their ability to take "dead" EMUs anywhere at line speed (rather than as unfitted freights) which would provide a good revenue stream. (Assuming there are still EMUs to be delivered and taken to and from overhauls.)

would that be with or without passenegers?, if with passengers could be used for temp extensions of EMU's to diesel locations, e.g. 378's to Cheltenham for race week

I’m not aware that the Class 93s have been specified to provide an ETH (electric train heat / auxiliary) supply to multiple units. So the haulage of multiple units in revenue service would not be possible.

Somewhere, not in London
It will be the same westcode translator type equipment as every other EMU Hauling loco out there.
Which then needs the “adaptors” to whatever the brake control lines are and the Control Supply to hold the brakes off with the smart valves

Moer to the point, the units don't have any provision for external electric power supply on their front ends.

I’m happy to be corrected, but I think the Class 93s have operated on diesel, electric (and battery?) with Mk3 stock, including at 110 mph on electric. So, that seems to cover all options passenger wise.

It's the other way round! The 93s can provide standard UK-spec ETS, but the only EMUs currently in use in this country which can take that supply are the Pendolinos - and it doesn't seem to be used on them any more.

Some units can take s 3-phase shore supply, but that is mostly DMUs I think. And even if the socket is on the front, HST power cars are the only thing which can provide a 3-phase supply, and that might not be 'clean' enough for modern units in any case.

Thanks for the clarification. There is a plan to drag a 390 again this year… but that’s with a 57, so not relevant to the discussion here ;)

At least one more example is in the country. 93006 arrived at Bristol Portbury Docks this morning.
