Scotrail HST’s

Afternoon ,

I wonder if anyone can kindly give me a definite answer because I’m hoping to do a Spirit Of Scotland travel pass in September to clear my last 4 HST powercars for haulage and mileage stretching back to their FGW days

Are there any plans to replace them this September or any plans to reduce the number of them in service ?

It's pretty definite they'll be replaced by class 222 but we're looking at 2028 at the earliest so no chance of them being replaced this year. If fact alot of work is underway to fit upgraded WSP and other modifications.

In fact, if things go to plan, should be an uplift in September (postponed from May).

Nope they are 43037 ,43139 43143 43179

I tried to get 43143 and 43179 which are paired together in the same set last Sunday on way home from Aberdeen they were due to work the 0944 Aberdeen to Glasgow Q.S but due to ( a person getting hit by a train according to RTT ) it terminated at Perth on its inward journey so got the 1207 to Edinburgh and saw the said set stabled just outside Perth station

43143 has seen very little action with scotrail it always seems to act as a spare PC until 2 weeks ago

Neither of the people I asked knew those details unfortunately.

One seemed to think it was likely the uplift would be further postponed to December.

143 has always been a bit troublesome, that one along with 164 are the only 2 power cars I've ever had bother with.

Maybe il get the pleasure of you driving one of the HST’s I travel on in September

Is there a good soul on this forum who is able advise please, with respect to ScotRail’s invitation to tender, the anticipated timescales that have been published for the provision of trains to replace the HSTs and operate the proposed 19 diagrams.

The contract notice (ScotRail InterCity Replacement Fleet and Technical Support and Spares Supply) said:

The full Fleet and maintenance support services should enable 19 passenger diagrams to operate from Dec 2027 (backstop date), and SRT reserves the right to exclude fleets which are not expected to be introduced by this date.

SRT prefers The Fleet is in reliable passenger service sooner, with the aim from Dec 2026.
