Thanks all!

@Iskra that Thompson BTK looks fabulous and Bachmann's recent tooling is superb.
A mid 1960s scene, with cascaded stock to the ScR, it looks fine.

A few Bulleid Third Opens were sent to Scotland in the 1960s and, painted maroon, operated on secondary services.
RM Web has a thread on it and mentions the actual carriages involved.
That's good to know, thank you! If a Maroon Bullied comes up at the right price in the future, then you never know...

There is also information on the .bloodandcustard.com site.

OTo my knowledge, a maroon one has not been produced RTR in the main scales.
Bachmann's old tooled Bulleid carriages, whilst not up to the modern standards, are a good candidate for DIY respray into maroon.
I believe there are some due out maybe next year from Bachmann in Maroon. I've seen a W/W numbered (Comp Corr 10" vents) and E/S numbered ones (Second Open 15" vents) listed.

Yeah it must have been pre-orders for these that I’d seen judging by the prices.

Yes, they are the new tooling as well, and yes, somewhat pricey! The alternative at the moment though is the Comet brass kits (which are probably about the same price, but more work!) but for the Bulleids they do offer pretty much every diagram you might ever desire.. (I have my eye on a couple for the future simply because they don't exist in RTR for the coach sets I want).

I've just picked up a class 68 (68026 "Enterprise" in TransPennine Express livery) from Rails Of Sheffield for just under £100 ... It is a bargain!
It is an amazing model!

I convinced myself that I should definitely buy the last blue and grey mk1 SO that Dapol had in their sale the other night. I felt that this was a very important decision to make after three glasses of a rather nice Merlot. ;)

Lovely stuff... but is the setting for those photos an indication that you're running out of space for trains indoors?

Definitely. It will eventually run outdoors, but I’ve got a bit of work to do first

Excellent effort. The SO and the Merlot. :D
That shot of the McRat at the head: if you snipped it and put it onto a real photo of Oban or West Highland lines, I for one would be fooled. Sublime stuff. 8-)

Looks ace, love the interior detail too!! Something I think is definitely underappreciated is a good interior. Love the cabs on the Hornby HSTs for that reason.

Well, I had an arrival from that auction site, and I'm going to be channelling @Tony2 for this one.

Here we have a West Country from Hornby (it's split from the Pines Express set). As you can see, after dismantling, it's obvious the poor thing has had a bit of a trauma and was sold as "a bit temperamental" - it's been (shoddily) rewired - the cause of the temperamental running is immediately obvious (dry solder joint on motor connector), but I'm just going to rewire the whole thing - it's missing the tender connections, and to say it's over lubricated is an understatement...

Annoyingly, despite "very good condition", I hadn't noticed that it's missing the pipes on the right hand underside of the cab, and they are going to be tricky to replace (need a cheap body for it probably) - the accessory pack is available later on though from Peter's spares.

Also the tender is weathered, but the loco itself isn't, so that's going to need sorting....! If nothing else, the quartering on the gears and the valve mech all appears to be good, and the idler gear is not split which is a common issue.

Sounds like you’ve got your work cut out but they’re very nice models if you can get it all running properly.

Can you buy those missing parts separately?

The pipes I think I can get in fact, but there is some kind of mounting behind it that doesn't appear available. Might have to see if I can find decent closeups and whether I can make something up.

Everything else is there bar a bit of wire, and a DCC plug and blanking plate which ai have spare of.

Yes, I've acquired another one. A Hornby model of 37207 "William Cookworthy":

The real thing is still with us - owned by Europhoenix, and currently stored at Great Central Railway.

While I've assembled an array of Syphons in an assortment of colours, you can't beat BR Blue!

I remember Hornby releasing that model. :) I suspect you bought yours for a handsome sight less than Bachmann's 37207 costs! o_O

You could get six of the Hornby models for the price of the Bachmann!

Just don’t tell him that it’s got class 47 bogies… ;)

It's got the right number of wheels. 'Engineering accuracy.' :D

My Rapido trains peak finally arrived today
First impression.....grills and roof details a little underwhelming, but may improve with a bit of wash and pigment.....
More pics presently.....it is just out of the plastic!

I see what you mean about the grilles. It’ll be interesting to see what detail you bring out with a bit of weathering.

I’m holding out for the 45 as 44s were somewhat thin on the ground down yere. ;)

Yes, really quite disappointing. It's my first Rapido model, and I have one of the split headcode 45s on order too. I'm hoping I have the weathering skills to make them look a bit better!
Now to see if it goes round curves any better than the Bachmann 40......!

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

On the subject of honing weathering skills, I got some more practice bodies from those generous folks at Dapol......OO gauge 68 bodies 002 and 005 for the princely sum of £10 each.
Now that's a good grille alright.......although admittedly a bigger scale!

Also from Dapol, some unpainted N containers in 20', 40' and 45' sizes......not sure I have a Barbie pink in my collection of paints for Ocean Network Express livery though! Evergreen or Cobelfret are probably more likely!

I don’t think you should handle this OO stuff for too long. You might get drawn into the dark side…

Far too big for me! :D I would need another, larger attic space to run my full length trains! My Cockenzie MGR train would be nearly 4m long in OO! And I'd need a lottery win to go up to your giant 7mm beasts! (Ticket purchased tonight......just the £1m raffle would be just fine, although I'd give Pete Waterman and big Rod a run for their money if I won the £208m!)

That Accurascale 50 does look the business mind you....and there are lovely 20s and 25s in OO! ;)
