Most likely a hotel in Crewe for the night. If there's disruption what happens to passengers from Crewe? I have a Crewe - Inverness ticket (seat) in July.

Is there staff at Crewe at the calling time? I guess yes since UK rail staffing is rather high. Most likely a hotel in Crewe for the night.
Hopefully they will be more useful than the usual Avanti Crewe staff 'nothing to do with us' attitude when dealing with customers from other operators. Is there staff at Crewe at the calling time? I guess yes since UK rail staffing is rather high.
Looks like a 37 will be deployed to help out tonight. Was on the London to Aberdeen last night and we all got put off at Edinburgh at 0500 to catch the 0530 ScotRail service north.
Inverness and Fort William (8 coaches) ran as booked.
Reliability has been awful recently.
Worse for bed passengers than seated I suppose. The actual delay all the way to Aberdeen would've been 22 minutes, which isn't that bad really; but I would be miffed if I'd booked a bed and had to switch to a seat at 5am, and presumably be doing without a cooked breakfast. Was on the London to Aberdeen last night and we all got put off at Edinburgh at 0500 to catch the 0530 ScotRail service north.

That’s exactly what happened, knocked at 0430, told to be out for 0500,no time for shower or offer of a breakfast.Worse for bed passengers than seated I suppose. Do you know what the problem was as we were not told.Looks like a 37 will be deployed to help out tonight.
Yeah and normally I'm quite happy with rail delays resulting in compensation. In some cases I can even claim on my travel insurance. That’s exactly what happened, knocked at 0430, told to be out for 0500,no time for shower or offer of a breakfast.
Only consolation was got a credit to my flexipass - that’s 2 I’ve had in the past month!
As I understand it, the same 37 (37403 I think) that will be hauling the Aberdeen portion hauled two 73/9 to Glasgow works a few days ago. Not sure what the problem is with the 73s, but the 37 will be hauling the train and providing ETS. A dead 73 is acting as a translator wagon! That’s exactly what happened, knocked at 0430, told to be out for 0500,no time for shower or offer of a breakfast.

Aberdeen to London cancelled tonight. Will keep an eye out for it then. Thanks.Realtime Trains | 0Z25 2044 Bo'ness Jn Exchange Sdg to Craigentinny T.&R.S.M.D | 12/06/2025

That was what should have been 37403. So I presume it will take 1A25 forward tonight and then 1B16 back on Friday night.
I believe last nights Aberdeen-bound portion went to Fort William instead of Aberdeen. The unfortunate Aberdeen passengers last night had a very different experience from mine, coming south from Inverness. Got seats in the lounge car, great views of the Cairngorms, breakfast also in the lounge car and arrival at Euston 100 seconds early.
What actually happened ? If it was a problem with the 73 that was to take the Aberdeen portion on from Edinburgh, how did all three southbound portions get to Edinburgh?
Must be approaching pensionable age? Also serious reliability issues with the 73s currently, only two fully working locos hence 37403 being drafted in.
Yes, unusual at this time of year, as there have been times in past Summers when no 66 has been needed, let alone 37403.Also serious reliability issues with the 73s currently, only two fully working locos hence 37403 being drafted in.
The shell may be, but aren’t most of the guts from their refurbishment so only a decade old?Must be approaching pensionable age?
The theory of a fault with the 73 is born out by RTT which states:If it was a problem with the 73 that was to take the Aberdeen portion on from Edinburgh, how did all three southbound portions get to Edinburgh?
Presumably the fault only became apparent after arriving in Edinburgh? This service was cancelled due to a problem with the traction equipment (MC).
Is there a limit on the number of coaches which can go to Inverness? Just wondering if the ABD passenger couldn't have been left asleep for another hour and then transfer to the 0603 ex Perth, although a 170 might have been a bit squeezy. Was on the London to Aberdeen last night and we all got put off at Edinburgh at 0500 to catch the 0530 ScotRail service north.

Platform length at Inverness - two locos plus eight coaches is about the limit. Is there a limit on the number of coaches which can go to Inverness? I don't think the refurbs have ever been quite as reliable as hoped.Must be approaching pensionable age?
Fair point, but I can't remember the last time they didn't have at least a doubke 73, if not a 66/73 pair on the Inverness/Ft Will portions. Aberdeen seems to always have just had a single 73.Yes, unusual at this time of year, as there have been times in past Summers when no 66 has been needed, let alone 37403.
Yes, I was referring to double 73s. The fleet size does presume a double 73 on the Inverness portion.Fair point, but I can't remember the last time they didn't have at least a doubke 73, if not a 66/73 pair on the Inverness/Ft Will portions. Aberdeen seems to always have just had a single 73.
But only a single on the Ft William?Yes, I was referring to double 73s. The fleet size does presume a double 73 on the Inverness portion.
No. Platform two at Inverness holds 2 73/9s and 12 coaches. Been done before .Platform length at Inverness - two locos plus eight coaches is about the limit.
And the ETS index of the class 73s is not sufficient for the extra coaches.
I'm surprised. Didn't look like there was room for four more coaches (even allowing for the fact that a 66 is longer than a 73) when i was there on WednesdayNo. Platform two at Inverness holds 2 73/9s and 12 coaches. Been done before .
