    EMR Class 153 Future

ATW had done up their 158s with PIS hadn't they?

    EMR Class 153 Future

I always thought it was because (like all Sprinters with a corridor connection) it looks a bit like one from the front, but also because they are so small and cramped.

    EMR Class 153 Future

Yeah absolutely, it doesn't seem like long ago when the arrival of, I think, 2 153s from Northern was a big deal in increasing capacity. This was early in the EMT franchise, when (allegedly) it became apparent that the numbers Central Trains had provided were not accurate. Back then things like...

    EMR Class 153 Future

Thanks for all the replies. It seems we might actually be in a place where we're preparing to send Sprinters to scrap which is quite remarkable. I understand these units are prone to corrosion and body issues (there are some where you see distortion quite clearly along the length of the unit)...

    EMR Class 153 Future

Not wanting to derail the livery thread - what does the future hold for the recently withdrawn Class 153s from EMR?

    EMR Class 170's

I promise you it did, CrossCountry uniformed guard on East Midlands Trains' Robin Hood Line service. Obviously a hangover from the Central Trains days. This was definitely still going on in 2009/10, a good few years after the split had occurred.

For many years there was some evening journeys manned by a CrossCountry guard. Has this stopped now?

    Worst " Bus war"?

That's really interesting - did Stevensons encroach on NCT in some way or was that a speculative purchase which didn't amount to much? I'd love to see a route map from around this time.

    Worst " Bus war"?

That's interesting, I didn't know that at all. I'm guessing Wellglade binned most of that off? Certainly I can't remember any Barton buses along the Wells Road (I'm 'only' 30 though...). In fact the only Wellglade operation this side of town was the subsidised Barton/Notts+Derby 7 service to...

    Worst " Bus war"?

Of course, you're right. They also ran routes competing with the tram back when NCT operated them.

    Worst " Bus war"?

Omnibus set up shop in Nottingham for a couple of years in the early 90s too: http://www.bcv.robsly.com/nottomni.html They have been, to date, the only serious challenge NCT have faced. Other lesser challenges came from Bellamys who tried running the Arnold route with Routemasters for a few...

Bus operators that still don't accept contactless payments

Pardon my ignorance, but surely there is some sort of software-as-a-service that manages this whole thing (possibly run by one the companies that makes the machines themselves)? I thought that was the cashless dream from an operators perspective...

Bus operators that still don't accept contactless payments

Yes indeed. I believe their "bus card" was the first contactless travel pass product in the country, released in 2000, long before Oyster and ITSO. They were then a fairly early supporter of the ITSO standard, so moved to machines which could read both the proprietary stuff they'd launched with...

East Midlands Railway livery and station branding

How come there's a 158 still running around with EMT branding? Slipped the net?
