Trainee Driver vacancies DBS

well from my friend in the company at immingham area has said that most trainee spots have dried up because of DBSr are moving people around now to fill gaps as they have lost 2 big contracts to freight-liner and so it seems will keep people on their books that they are interested in in a holding talent pool type thing so in the future don't be surprised to get a random letter from DBSr. So hold tight keep asking HR once a month and see how it goes!!

btw its not gospel info, he is a instructor working at immingham and is very pally with people in the recruitment department and HR department.

If I was applying for jobs I would be applying for everywhere not holding out for a chance of an assessment.
Also if anyone missed my post Thornaby does not have any vacancies and no planned retirees or transfers on the horizon so don't hold your breath.

If thats the case about Thornaby, why would DBS have Thornaby listed for Trainee Drivers when they were advertising for vacancies? Or am I missing the point lol

So i called up today and the lady said...

Out of the 2,000+ that applied we have only invited 40 for assessments the rest of us are not needed at the depots we applied for, therefore when the time comes that we are wanted they will contact us individually.

In other words if you have not recieved any type of communication, they haven't even looked at your application form.

Probably covering all eventualities. They advertised for Tyne Yard at the start of the year, invited to assessments then cancelled the appointments after filling the vacancies with displaced drivers. Tough to take but we're not owed anything by DBS :P

Yeah the Thornaby Driver I spoke to couldn't understand that either. But they had drivers displaced to Tyne Yard within the last 12 months and with the Immingham losing contracts it still looks bleak up north.

my pal didnt say what contracts have been pinched by freightliner i assume it was tata steel? reason why i say that is because one of the openings was at the rotherham tata steel yard.

so.... any news of any others recruiting soon haha mainly freighliner heavy haul? im going to try and work for their HGV department as a back door in.

also my pal said to me (aint putting me off) its frigging nails as a external applicant to be a train driver, my answer was... their is people on this forum that make it so why cant i... eventually lol

Haha thanks well heres somthing for you all, just finnished for the day driving my lorry, got back to my yard and noticed a big red train... Had to be a DBS train didnt it, asked the gaffa and its only the rotherham train yard!! So all this time ive worked next door in the same yard to the job i really want! How about that.

Anyone in the Midlands heard anything yet? Applied for Toton depot but haven't heard a thing. Going to ring on Tuesday morning I think see if I can get any info about what's happening.

Also noticed db are advertising a couple of jobs at Toton in the past couple of days and the descriptions mention production etc. I know there's plans for a HS2 depot/station in Toton but I'm not entirely sure if db are currently/planning on expanding the Toton depot at all.

I can't help you with the Midlands, but I applied for Hither Green and also haven't heard anything.
