Finally a use for the redundant 442 units! With roofs removed to clear Ryde Tunnel, they will take over all services on Island Line this summer. A South West Trains spokesman said that open-top trains would complement the open top buses already popular in the Isle of Wight.

After a full equipment, external and internal refurbishment class 442s return to the fast Waterloo to Weymouth services allowing class 444 desiros to be cascaded to Waterloo to Portsmouth harbour services.. Portsmouth line commuters are said to be ecstatic and the 'saynoto450' campaign is dissolved.

SWT refurbish the 450s to 2+2 seating in the 350/3 layout, and *everybody* stops whining.

Office managers to realise that heavy traffic or a broken down car is as unacceptable an excuse for being late for work as the bus or train being late (At least in my workplace why is it OK to be late if you drive a car, leave earlier, thats what I get told).

Firstly the car is god in the UK, secondly, if your car breaks down and there is no other way to get to work you are stuffed for transport, getting up earlier won't stop the car breaking down. Yesterday morning, something went wrong with my car security system and the alarm went off without provocation, and it wouldn't respond to my key fob, so I couldn't turn it off and I was locked out. Had to call the AA who showed me where the keyhole was (didn't realise there was one, it is hidden behind a small plastic cover at the end of the handle which can be prised off!), then unlocked the door manually, started the engine, and it fortunately re-synced itself. Cost me about half an hour, but my line manager was sympathetic. Heavy traffic is a different situation, if you drive a route regularly you will know what the journey times plus or minus two standard deviations are, and therefore can plan timing. Even that would be a reasonable excuse if it was exceptional, such as a serious accident which closes the motorway and everyone is stationary for two hours to allow the air ambulance to transport the victims to hospital. With public transport, it is generally thought of as being poor in the UK so people are expected to allow for longer than the timetabled journey suggests. Again, doing a route many times gives you an idea of a reasonable buffer time to incorporate into the journey.

Rail unions demand 4% reduction in pay to stop passenger fares rising this year.

Trainspotters admit they were suffering from nostalgia and new trains are actually an improvement over old.

Politicians leave management to the experts and agree not to interfere in pursuit of good headlines.

After freak weather causes massive delays passengers shrug and say **** happens.

The Government releases incontrovertible proof that telling people not to forget their bags caused a terrorist attack to be averted when a potential terrorist picked up his bag, took it home and blew his own house up instead.

A snap general election is called causing the Lib Dems to take power on the back of their 'reverse the EU referendum' manifesto.
Realising that it's impossible to buy new locomotives that fit in with EU emission and noise standards a new build scheme of three hundred class 37s with grandfather rights is started to power the massive upsurge in container trains bringing straightened bananas through the Channel Tunnel.

The Voyagers are all to be scrapped, to be replaced with new build 8-car 68-hauled Mk5b rakes with a full sit-down restaurant car facility and space for 10 bicycles.

Mind you, 2 years ago we'd have thought the TPE LHCS was fake news, and HSTs replacing DMUs in Scotland!
