I ask as my good lady has taken hers down today! o_O I am moving in with her in 2 weeks so this won't be happening next year ;).

Whilst my girlfriend clearly has little festive tolerance, when does your tree come down, assuming you have one?

Early next year/week probably. I've had xmas decorations (wooden animals) in my porch for years now, forgot to remove them and so in the end just left them there.

Did it today. If it were my choice it would never go up as it just clutters the room.

I looked at my scraggy tree just before Christmas and decided to decorate a pot plant instead (a plant in a pot that is).
I shall be removing the assorted Christmas trimmings on the 2nd January and filing them in the cupboard under the stairs.

On the 12th day of Christmas which is January 5th or 6th depending on your viewpoint (which I like, as it gives me flexibility depending what I'm up to). Quite why some people put theirs up weeks before Christmas (in November in some cases!) but then want to take it down during the Christmas period (ie before new year), I'm not sure.... Maybe someone who does that could provide the reason!

For many, rightly or wrongly, Christmas ends after boxing day.

We never put any up this year which is kind of a shame. At the end of the day though I live at home with my dad and two of my siblings. My youngest brother normally lives in Leicester but was in Colombia. None of us have kids and since my mum passed away it all feels a bit forced. On top of that I was working Christmas and Boxing day and indeed all of this week. Just doesn't feel very Christmasy like when you are younger or have kids.

I live with my elderly father. Other than Christmas cards, we didn't put up any decorations or tree, so the won't take long to get down.:|:|

When my daughter was little and I was married, it was always after her birthday on the 5th January.

While caught in various traffic jams one September in South London I noticed the presence of Christmas trees in at least three public spaces, most notably outside Stockwell tube station. Whether these had not got taken down in January or were getting in early for the following yule I know not, though by the state of at least two of them I'd say it was the former.

Tree up 12 days before Christmas Day, down 12 days after. That's how we've always done it.

5th of January.

The superstition is that decorations must not be up after the 12th night, therefore they have to come down before dawn on the 6th.

Night of the 25th, that being Christmas Day, is the first night during Christmas.
Night of the 26th is therefore the 2nd night.
27th = 3rd
28th = 4th
29th = 5th
30th = 6th
31st = 7th
1st = 8th
2nd = 9th
3rd = 10th
4th = 11th
5th = 12th night.

As will be clear from other replies that's actually quite an assumption. I too don't bother. Problem solved.

Haven't had one for 5 years. I'm only really interested in Christmas Day when all the family gathers at my parents and the rest is just a waste of time and money. I have no religious interest and I'm at a point in my life where my flat is just somewhere I use for functional purposes - I spend little time there by choice as I'm either out working or doing things.

Consequently we don't have a tree or any decorations and that suits me fine - my mum's are always lovely anyway so that more than makes up for it in the 24 hours Christmas lasts for me :p

My tree went down yesterday, due to an imminent house move, normally its the first working day of the new year.

January 12 is the cut off date. Except in retail, where all the Christmas decorations come down in the evening of Christmas Eve...

I put up our Christmas tree last year and its still up. Its very tiny, about as tall as a shoe, it sits on top of the TV, I thought about putting it all away in April and then September came around and I thought stuff it.. So this year for Christmas I moved to the coffee table and will actually put it away when I come back from QLD on the 13th.

Here its quite common to pack trees up well before NYE. A lot of people like to get a real tree and I think the Aussie climate tends to dry them out really quick after they have been cut, so by the time Christmas comes a lot of peoples trees have started to brown and look unsightly, so a few days after Christmas its quite common to see them dumped by the roadside like someone has disposed of a body...

Here it normally goes up the first weekend of December and down the first weekend of January (or as close to 12th night as possible if there isn't a weekend), though it's already looking rather dead.

Mine came down on 27th for the sole reason that I'm working right up until Hogmanay then back to work on the 2nd of January, and I can't bothered sorting it all out after I finish work.

Haven’t put one up this year as we’ve just moved house - too busy finding things....

The year I moved (moved at the end of January), the lights didn't come down until a day or two before.

It starts earlier and earlier, our dates in a "Christmas" box from Waitrose were best before 22 December.

Ours will be does at the weekend, but was annoyed to see in Woking Peacocks Centre it was down last week, though the one in the town square at least was still there!

When I lived with my Mum, we always took our tree, cards and decorations down on January 6th.

Since I've been living with my Dad again we haven't really bothered, but now my daughter from an earlier relationship is living with us, we decided to make a bit of an effort this year. We'll be taking our decorations and tree down on January 6th, all going to plan.
