I just read the post again. Yes I see now! Sorry!
Ha ha, no worries mate, reading back I replied to the wrong person perhaps, I assumed it was all related to the spot the difference, was calling myself a dope. Now I see it. Ha ha.

Spot the difference on the two Driving Trailers (first photo)? It took me ages but once you see it it is rather obvious!

Must admit i hadn't noticed the different cantrail stripes! The right set has wrong and incomplete cantrail stripes!! or not as the case maybe.

Sorry I meant for other classes of train, given the lengths gone to with these trains to have special training for guards how can other trains have no guards at all?
I don't want to start a debate about no guards just wanted to know what the official justification is.

Well it is technically not a DOO train as it is in a fixed formation. The loco is just there, regardless.

Yes the driver is separated from the passenger coaches but there are procedures in case of an emergency.

The driver can even see what’s happening in the passenger section from the loco by way of a CCTV screen in the locomotive electronics room.

There is also communications between the guard and driver from every door panel.

Plus the guard can see the loco from the guard office.

I don’t foresee any major issues really.

As for other trains (aka DOO) I won’t comment here as it will go off topic.

Has testing been happening at night do we know?

All seems very quite.

Be very lucky if any of these Mk5a sets are in passenger service from December!:frown:

TPE should get their hands on a train next month. Until then it’s all CAF / Freighliner.

Current plan is still 2 sets in service from Sun 9 Dec.

I do hope so for everyone's benefit!

These like all other new rolling stock are urgently required but none of late have gone into service on time and without major problems.

What's happening with the 185s that these are replacing?
Presuming just increasing the length of other 185 services?
Ended up standing all the way from Piccadilly to Doncaster on a 3-car 185 a few weeks back, en route to Grimsby.

Cancelled Crewe due to dragging brakes at Winsford. Had to do 20mph to clear the line.
What set was this? I presume it's one that's been on test before.
What with these and the Mk5 sleepers, brake problems seem to be a reoccurring theme!

The "fault-free" running hasn't started yet, current running is still in the "testing" phase, that's according to the latest internal TPE update.

I think anything to do with a brake fault would reset the clock.
These sets are still in testing but not a lot of successful testing happening at the moment.
December is looming!!

Just a thought but these vehicles are so open under-frame, and are quite technical, so are they going to cope well with the rigours of Trans-Pennine weather?

Good point. When you see the amount of ice that gets built up under a 350 during a period of days of snow/cold weather!

I've heard indirectly that these sets will not be in use until May 2019 now. Anyone know more?

It’s a franchise commitment to be in traffic before the end of the year, so I’d expect fines to be dished out if that deadline slips.

As an outsider to rail, but someone who is involved in commissioning new equipment in a highly regulated industry, why does it take so long to introduce new rolling stock? Is there a set minimum time period or set number of hours of fault free running,or how does it work?

Ignore the rumour mill please. I can assure you that you'll see these in service during 2018, I just can't say exactly when. ;)

Anyone else think the buffer section on the driving trailer is a bit OTT? It spoils the sleek cab profile.

Surely it could have be recessed with a flip up cowl or something?
