A career as a signaller

When selected there is always a second candidate who can be given the job if the first candidate fails any part (i'm the second candidate at the moment for a signalling job and hoping the preferred candidate fails the medical :) ) And your previous interview scores can be used at a new interview for up to 3 months. So the LOM could select the second person to save the process again.
Not once you've formally accepted the job, passed the medical, signed the contract, been "on-boarded" and given a date for school if not started already, which is how I interpreted the original question. All the other candidates will have been given their thanks but no thanks letters as soon as you passed the medical so the chances are that they'll have already found something else anyway. Readvertising a vacancy isn't a straightforward process for a LOM, it has to go back to the Route panel for approval all over again then HR need to go through their process which can take a fair amount of time in itself; the LOM would struggle to get it advertised within 3 months. So if you do decide to jilt your new LOM at the altar then you'd better be sure you're making the right choice!

Signalling school isn’t a consideration in the hypothetical example I described. I was thinking of an overlap of just a few weeks (next school places would seem to be March 2020).

Presumably you've been offered and formally accepted the grade 2 position and passed the medical? Bear in mind that, in theory at least, there's a "one year" rule between being appointed to a signalling job and being able to apply for another to stop exactly this sort of thing arising.

You'd think that there would be a mechanism to remove any other applications you have once you've accepted a job offer

There may well be such a system in place. No, no medical or interview. Two (or more) jobs applied for, just that one is moving through the system rather more quickly than the other one.

It’s an awkward position to be in I know... on my recent return to the box I had an offer of a job very close to my house and at the same time an impending interview for a job that was a higher grade but also far enough away that I’d really need to move. I didn’t feel I could knock back an actual offer on the basis of *possibly* managing to have a decent enough interview that I’d be offered the higher grade job so I accepted the closer one and withdrew from the other. With the benefit of hindsight that was probably the wrong decision but sometimes the timing just doesn’t work out as you’d like it to. What I personally wouldn’t do is accept a job then carry on with another application and leave the original LOM in the lurch... bear in mind you may still end up working for them some day.

I still think honesty is the best policy though; just tell the LOM what you’ve got in the pipeline.

I'm up there training and only wear Jean's and a polo shirt...I'd say 85% of people up there wear the same!

The job I was successful at status, is showing as ‘Active Assignment’, I noticed that all my other open pending applications are now all showing as Terminate Application.

Hi everyone!
How long after an interview would you suggest chasing up your application?
I've had 2 interviews in the last few weeks and haven't heard anything from either!
Getting a bit worried now!

I haven't had an interview yet but I've found that often nothing seems to happen until you ping them an email then literally within a couple of hours things suddenly start moving again.

I had a phone call with an offer the next day after my interview .
It depends on the LOM work load and the urgency of filling the post would dictate how quickly they got back to you.

There's no hard and fast rules for this. It can take weeks, or even months, so don't panic. You'll hear as and when everyone gets around to it.

All bit of a piece of string question, really. I know that doesn't put your mind at rest, but please don't read anything into how long it's taking.

I Had an interview this Wednesday the status still shows assessment 2 scheduled and the interview slot table remains blank. Is this common?

Thank you! I will try not to think too much into it!

I don't think it changes to assessment 2 completed until everyone has been interviewed for the position!

Pure coincidence I’m afraid, the main theme with railway recruitment is it’s very very very slow - waiting a good few weeks after any stage of the process is literally nothing.

Being a signaller is all about patience, better start getting used to it now I’m afraid.

Have you checked your spam folder? My invitation went in there.

Also on the portal page for each job you should be able to see all the emails that they sent out.

Dear

Thank you for attending an interview for the above position, unfortunately on this occasion
the Hiring Manager has decided not to progress your application further for this role.
Thank you for your interest in the position. We encourage you to search our job site for other

Second this. Once all candidates have been interviewed I think results will be forwarded onto HR for them to then action and the status on the portal should change
