Likewise. I've complied with the law so far, but I won't wear a mask outside.

I wouldn’t be surprised they might try a fudge like “masks in crowded outdoor settings”.

Can’t see what these would be, though. Khan was bleating about some of the queues outside shops during the run up to Christmas. Apart from that, what is there?

If test and protect works (worked?) so well, surely they can decipher where most transmission is taking place?

Or is it in people's homes, then people don't want to admit that as they'd have broken the law...

Doesn't it take "2-3 weeks" for new restrictions to show in statistics?

Edit: just found this: https://twitter.com/glennbbc/status/1345696975149273089?s=21

Scottish cabinet are likely to consider tightening level 4 restrictions including:

▪️further delay to return of schools
▪️stay at home style lockdown, more like March 2020

So more of the same, that just isn't working.

I can walk for miles where I live without coming into close contact with anyone.

Basically what I read in the telegraph on my phone, in short March 2020 lockdown, the joys! (not)!

If the test and protect worked we wouldn’t need to lockdown again either but I guess the media are too slow on picking this up (UK/devolved) but again let’s sweep this under a bigger rug!

Aren't we already supposed to be staying at home? Most people are just trying to get on with their lives a little bit despite the government shutting everything it can. It's all futile and any tightnening won't be respected. There really needs to be clear end game for the public to be on board. On test an trace, it's only effective when the number of cases is manageable to trace, there's literally no point with such high levels of infection. We might as well save the money and get all the tracers trained in vaccinations!

Big announcement at 2PM today from wee nippy Nicola Sturgeon. Looking like it'll more or less be a copy and paste job from 23rd March last year.

I have no doubt that in a week or two they'll be saying it's not enough, and we'll be going into tier 20, where Nicola Sturgeon and Jason Leitch come around and weld all our front doors shut to keep us 'safe'.

I wonder if the Scottish Government ads will be rolled out from last year again, the one with Catherine Calderwood (wait wrong person it’ll be Jason Leitch or the other)

Would it not be better they kept themselves inside and zoomed?

Here comes a March national lockdown then. This all follows the usual pattern.

The rumors appear to be:

- Kicks in from Midnight tonight.
- Legally enforcable "stay at home" as in March
- Schools closed til February
- 2 adults can meet outside

On the whole would seem to put it on par with English Tier 4?

Things might be worse without them, though. Whatever happens, it's doing my mental health no good at all. I'm really struggling at the moment.

Look at the correlations between restrictions and cases, across the world - there is no correlation whatsoever.

And probably the same level of non-compliance as in England, too! There aren't enough police to make any impression at all on being able to enforce it if a sizeable number of people decide to ignore it.

Nicola Sturgeon has announced Scotland will be going into “full stay at home” from midnight tonight till the end of the month.

Currently on BBC News (TV channel) so no link, but no doubt it will filter through shortly.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather
I know this is England but Sturgeon has announced a full Scottish lockdown from tonight.

Nicola Sturgeon confirms Scotland facing new lockdown from tonight

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, is making her statement to the Scottish parliament now.
She says the cabinet has decided to introduce from midnight tonight a legal requirement to stay at home, except for essential purposes.
This is similar to the lockdown announced last year, she says.
How soon before BJ announces for England?

Some time this week I should reckon.

We are being softened up for new restrictions, and blamed and made scapegoats for the current restrictions not working, by a succession of government ministers doing the broadcast rounds.

She cited a 65% increase in cases in the week 23-30 December to 225 per 100,000

So that means you’d only have to encounter 444 strangers to be certain of encountering one person who tested positive

The BBC are reporting that the Scottish Islands are to stay in Tier 3 for the time being (ie until Thursday or Friday this week)

There is no limit to how many times people can leave their homes for exercise, so no doubt that will be used as a loophole.

What I think is rather nasty is that funeral wakes will no longer be allowed.

This is really kicking people when they are at their lowest point psychologically. It should be possible to specify a maximum number of attendees from a maximum number of households, with personal details taken so that contract tracing can be initiated if required.

Or perhaps Queen Nicola has banned funeral wakes so that people won't inadvertently forget to put their face covering when they stand up after sitting down at the table? <D

Nicola Sturgeon is only banning funeral wakes because people can spread the virus. She does not like impose any restrictions to curb the virus and she is acutely aware of that, but it is necessary at this time. I knew that would be happening in January.

For someone who you claim doesn't like imposing restrictions, she certainly shows remarkable enthusiasm for doing so!

Whilst everything is quite headline-grabbing at the moment, as someone who doesn't have school-age kids and is currently working from home (occasionally), I'm actually struggling to see what's particularly different from existing Tier 4 rules, in practical terms at least. Although we're told we can only go out for "essential reasons", there doesn't seem to be any limit on duration/frequency of such things, which is a pleasant surprise, and I'm confident that I can justify every trip I make in terms of how essential it is - my mental health alone is good enough, as far as I'm concerned. I'm also pleasantly surprised we haven't seen more stupid rules about masks, which is what I was dreading. Whilst all of this is a big pain, and I'm very concerned about the force of law behind enforcement, it's nowhere near as bad as I feared, and if it really is just for January, I'll manage.

I would not be surprised if, at the end of January, the "lockdown" is ended but level 4 is reintroduced nationwide with schools (at least partially) returning. It's not the first time Ms Sturgeon has alluded to the fact the general population could be put under greater restrictions to allow for schools to return.

Unfortunately, it was not made clear if The Daily Show would be broadcast from home for the duration of the work from home regulation or St Andrew's House, but I strongly suspect it will be the latter.

Well, there is that, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
That depends on if she lets you cross it - lots of Scottish bridges join up different local authorities ;)

It has been illegal since mid-November to travel between Scotland and the rest of the UK without reasonable excuse.

But it's not been enforced, having done it by Rail and Air in December there were no checks anywhere to deter people.

I hope it will get all the kids off the streets aimlessly hanging about at Tesco's et al ...

A nice peaceful journey to work by Train returning hopefully.
