Whilst everything is quite headline-grabbing at the moment, as someone who doesn't have school-age kids and is currently working from home (occasionally), I'm actually struggling to see what's particularly different from existing Tier 4 rules, in practical terms at least. Although we're told we can only go out for "essential reasons", there doesn't seem to be any limit on duration/frequency of such things, which is a pleasant surprise, and I'm confident that I can justify every trip I make in terms of how essential it is - my mental health alone is good enough, as far as I'm concerned. I'm also pleasantly surprised we haven't seen more stupid rules about masks, which is what I was dreading. Whilst all of this is a big pain, and I'm very concerned about the force of law behind enforcement, it's nowhere near as bad as I feared, and if it really is just for January, I'll manage.
