Curiously 4S43, the 'Tesco Train' Daventry to Coatbridge is on the move again after being halted by the landslip.

Has the line, or as least one direction, been cleared for trains again?

It went through on the Up Line.

I would imagine this will be the plan for the sleepers depending on isolations and possessions to clear the site and make safe.

Trains do seem to be starting to move again. There is a pendolino (9T55) currently running from Penrith to Glasgow which has made it to Beattock summit and appears to be cleared to proceed. 4M11 is heading into the breach south bound.

The driver T&Cs agreed by Virgin and still current preclude ‘double tripping’ ie doing two round trips over the same route.
This applies to booked work only, doing so at times of disruption is not barred at all.
I believe single line working has now been brought in.

Not the news you want to read when you’ve got a 7am departure from Glasgow! Fingers crossed they can get the repairs done, which it looks like they are.

I always have the suspicion that Avanti turn most trains from the south at Preston for operational convenience because there's normally a crew change there.

It's about time that trains ran for the convenience of the customers rather than the operators.

Surely if there's trouble north of Carlisle crews based at Preston could be asked to do two round trips from Preston to Carlisle rather than one round trip to Glasgow in a shift.

I realise when Glasgow crews are booked to work to Preston and back that wouldn't help but surely a two hourly frequency between Preston and Carlisle would be a help, especially if First Class was declassified to create more standard class accommodation, or am I still in cloud cuckoo land thinking that the customers could be given some sort of service?
Apparently so... Fancy running anything for the benefit of the paying customer...

I've always been told as per:
The driver T&Cs agreed by Virgin and still current preclude ‘double tripping’ ie doing two round trips over the same route.
(They'd be no good on town service, same route six (million)!times a day

Are you sure about that? @HamworthyGoods 's answer has been given but someone every time there's the dropping of service North of Preston, along with the issue of not having sets to use.

Difficult not to feel like second class citizens when you're booted off 2.5 hours from home when it's windy or rainy!

Why not just run it as a through service? Whats the layover like at Dumfries?
Goes into Dumfries yard and attaches to another set. That's why it's separate services.

04:45 is the working target to reopen the line after works.

“The line running towards Carlisle has since been able to reopen, however, the line running towards Motherwell / Edinburgh will remain closed until repair work can take place overnight tonight.” - NR

- Surely this means the sleeper won’t get through until late?

Works to commence and then be halted to allow Lowlander to pass. Works are then to be completed by 04:45 to allow the other three sleepers through.

I'm near Dewsbury having come down the S&C from Carlisle. I'm pretty sure the unlocked Pendo on P4 was the same one that was there 3 hours earlier!

I'm with a poor lady who was trying to get from Newcastle to Shrewsbury. She has family she can stay with in Greater Manchester so is taking that option.

I suppose the issues that will arise in the morning will be stock displacement. If the inbound services can’t arrive then it may cause a knock on for morning departures.

As explained repeatedly by various contributors when this issue has cropped up on (multiple) threads before, the main reasoning for not running north of Preston as far as Carlisle stems from Avanti (and Virgin before them) giving primacy to maintaining the integrity of the (much busier) Preston-London section of route given that they have neither sufficient sets nor traincrew available at Preston or South thereof to run Preston-London AND cover Preston-Carlisle on those occasions when Glasgow-based drivers are trapped (along with sets) in their own country and unable to make their normal contribution to the Carlisle-Preston section.

Correct me if I’m wrong here - the southbound highlander is due to pass at 2:40? - will it just wait?
Single line working, that will end up being late, maybe very late depending on what other traffic is around at the time.

EDIT - its going to be late anyway because the FTW portion is only at Glasgow, they might not even have a loco for 1M16 anyway as thats trapped behind 1M11 in Glasgow Central. Unless they have a spare 92 somewhere.

Left Edinburgh 20 down… how much do we reckon it will lose to the single line working?

That's what I wrote.

Single line working was cancelled to allow repairs to take place. OLE isolation of both lines too.

Out of interest why is 07:16 Euston-Blackpool North service being terminated at Crewe and not Preston? Reason given on Realtime Trains is due to a landslip but Blackpool North services won't be affected by the current disruption will they?

Perhaps one for the fares and advice thread, however I was booked on a 7am PRE-EDB. When I got up this morning the advice was still DO NOT TRAVEL and they were advising this until 9am. This meant I had to abandon plans, but it looks like my service was not cancelled and did run. Can I claim a refund?

1S37 0603 London Euston to Glasgow Central's running with first class at the Glasgow end, which is the first time I've noticed that happening on an Avanti service.

The 07.30 Euston-Glsgow yesterday (Friday) ran in "reverse formation".

It's not particularly uncommon - the 09:15 Manchester to Euston was in reverse formation yesterday as well, which appears to have been a different set to today's 06:03 Euston - Glasgow.
