Class: Unknown. Maybe a 380, may be something derived from it, may be something else entirely.

Length? The idea of extending Queen Street to take longer trains seems to have died? If this is the case, they won''t be any longer than the current 6-car 170 services, though whether 2x3 car or fixed formation 6 car is again not entirely certain. Don't believe anyone telling you that it will definitely be 125mph capable 8-car 380s!

I heard there was talk of moving the bays further into the concourse at Queen Street and I've heard Croy is getting a third Platform whilst Linlithgow, Polmont and Falkirk High will also be extended to 4+3 380 Desiro formation, but i was just checking.

Moving the bay platforms at Queen St would be quite an undertaking, cost a lot of money and cause a lot of disruption. Is this an actual plan or just a rumour?

I can remember travelling Queen St to Aberdeen on a class 40 with at least 6 Mk1s possibly 7 in the late 70s/early 80s, and there was a regular HST125 run to Kings Cross for a while in the 80s.
So surely at least a couple of the platforms could accomodate a 7 or even 8 car EMU?

If it wasn't for queen street we could have 12 cars running.

And the bays at Waverley. And the platforms at Croy. And Polmont. And Linlithgow. And Falkirk. And the infrastructure. And the stock.

That's a very simplistic view. With the railway, making something work is a combination of many factors, not just one.

The HSTs into Queen Street resulted in a power car sitting across the points, partly into the tunnel, leaving only one track available for other services.
Polmont? used to be a stop on the Inverness HST, I'm pretty sure without any carriages off the ends, but that might have been whilst ECML HSTs were still 2+8, and I think on the eastbound line the "HST stop" is a short way beyond the platform

6 Mark 1s are approximately the same length as a 5 car 170.

Any idea when Scotrail will put out a tender for more EMU's, or did the 380 order have an option for more?

The plans to rebuild the concourse and retail facilities at Queen Street were 'announced' by the government in June 2009 as reported by the BBC (and have been since repeated). But we have to be very careful how we read these 'announcements'. When Network Rail were interviewed the following day, the response was "only confirm it was looking at platform expansion. . . . . As part of the Edinburgh and Glasgow improvement programme we are examining how capacity at Glasgow Queen Street could be enhanced.

The options under consideration include lengthening some existing platforms and creating an additional platform by utilising the current car parking space. This project is at an early stage and many elements, including funding, have yet to be finalised.
"

The full programme of proposals are known as EGIP (Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme) and can be seen here:-
Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme.

The EGIP programme, is out for consultation at present, and even mentions 'capacity improvements' at Queen Street, but there is no specification for the movement of platforms further into the station (which could accommodate longer trains). The Network Rail media announcement can be read here:- NETWORK RAIL ANNOUNCES GLASGOW QUEEN STREET DEVELOPMENT PARTNER
Extracts state "passengers will benefit from an extended concourse", "a world-class integrated transport hub" and "cementing Glasgow’s position as the top retail and leisure destination outside London".

But when it comes to discussion of extending the platforms, here is the actual wording : "also making provision for potential capacity expansion at the station."
I don't read "making provision for a potential capacity expansion" as "expansion". I do read it as a means to provide retail growth for the developers Land Securities and Henderson Global.

Glasgow City Council responded to the consultation in these terms : Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme
You'll see that the City is more concerned that the chord proposed for Garngad has been dropped, which will require trains between Falkirk and QueenStreet via Cumbernauld to reverse at Springburn. In respect of Queen Steet, they merely state that the City "Welcomes proposals for capacity improvements at Queen Street High Level station".

Linlithgow used to be a stop on sundays between Inverness and Kings Cross, not Polmont.

Polmont definitely used to be a stop- it still has HST markers, and furthermore, we used to drop my grandparents there to catch the southbound train as they had restricted mobility, access to Platform 3 at Stirling was rather unreliable and Falkirk town centre is a horrible place to drive into.
