    Bishop Auckland had loadsa routes origionally and technically the platform ain't moved and also kept the through route for weardale used for blue circle and some passenger specials in the 80's/90's. the origional Saltburn station also had Whitby trains driving in and reversing.

    If the northern curve was reinstated at North Road onto the ECML you could then run north and up true maybe sunderland would be a little to much especially with the reversal. and yes overcrowding the already busy ECML but i can dream go BISH WOO lol

    Also just spent 30 mill on track replacement. BTW back to Leamside would you (if you had a choice) just redirect current services or create new services? I'd love to see a Bishop Auckland (Biased lol )to Sunderland Via Washington.

    Was on the news tonight Hitachi have completely ruled out Tyne yard the North easts only hope is now Aycliffe although apparently Darlington were trying to persuade Hitachi that Morton Park was the place to build.

    I like this idea however wouldn't Victoria viaduct need massive repairs to allow metro (light rail not trams!) and heavy rail services? when last used it was single track. Also the line would give Durham a second station at the park and ride at Carrville. Why isn't this line open again?:D

    I know its been a while for this thread but why can't they open a "small" stretch of this line from Pelaw to Washington that would stop before Victoria viaduct so no repair bill and still leave scope for future expansion to Tursdale junction if and when it becomes viable.     I work literally 200 yds away from Amazon business park at Aycliffe where the factory would be built. Can't wait for the decision on IEP would be class to see train building return to the area. Im not holding my breath tho I agree that the pendalino's are prob the way the DfT will go.

    This is definately in the pipeline they will have a station at the eco village and there is also suggestions that a nearby quarry will use the line to transport aggregates.

    When i was on the line there was talk of reopening harperly station but apparently its conditional on the POW camp reopening. That would probs be a requested stop too.

    Plenty full at commuting times but i agree lacking support at other times should be an hourly service. From bishop its both cheeper and quicker to get the train to darlington rather than a bus. Hopefuly weardale railway will boost passenger numbers and Northern will improve the service. btw...
