That doesn't look a very good way of getting passengers off the train either

The Times: Labour considering cuts to Restoring Your Railway and dropping HS2 Euston

Fine, whatever, but don't dispose of the land for HS2 to Crewe that has been bought.

The Times: Labour considering cuts to Restoring Your Railway and dropping HS2 Euston

Indeed, even more than failing to project the new line to Crewe, which is saying something.

    Barrow in Furness Docks

I may as well get full mileage out of this... So it is unlocked from Barrow but ONLY when Dalton Junction SB is manned. Presumably this is based on verbal permission from the signaller rather than any interlocking? Are signal boxes on the Furness Line often switched out? I've an idea Grange...

    Barrow in Furness Docks

Thanks. I put lugg locked frame into Google and the only hit was your posting! But I can imagine what it means. Off topic it was an interesting place to explore, spoiled only by the lack of a class 68 and its train.

    Barrow in Furness Docks

We were down by the Nuclear Berth in Ramsden Dock, Barrow today (public parking, you just drive down). Network Rail had a van near the level crossing on the line to the berth. Is it in use? Being rehabilitated? Bit off topic for infrastructure but what sort of traffic is there on it if any?

Could you explain this, all these are class II appliances with no earth connection in the plug. I am intrigued.

No, they may agree about what is possible but merely settle for the expedient.

WCML Derailment in Cumbria - 29th May 2024

My beef is that Avanti has often stopped north of Preston when the problem is north of Carlisle. I assume this is route knowledge and would be much cheaper to address than drags over the S&C would be.

Winning friends and influencing people Network Rail style. Using other people's property/causing prolonged disruption, legal threats, no agreed compo

NR has powers for emergency repairs, I think, but doesn't this need to be done by negotiation? £10k isn't a lot but a lot less than going to law. Or can they "enforce?"

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

This thread highlights the madness in railways in UK. 70 years since nationalisation yet we build new stations with no passive provision to extend and built to be just big enough from the word go, dozens of different types of train, units going off lease before replacements are ready...

Labour promises rail nationalisation within five years of coming to power

Not letting frachises as they expire is a very low cost option. Integration should offer advantages. We could go back to the days when train building wasn't boom or bust and when each operator (even within operator) had numerous small fleets of trains that won't couple together, operate...

Trivial - The stone signal box like structure in Carnforth

Thanks, I grew up at Trowell Junction, so I only know what Midland Railway ones look like. Did the FR have any more archtectural flourishes?
