ECML disruption due to OLE issues (01/12)

Thanks. I'm intrigued by hidden rules and to my shame I was thinking only of drivers. With silent apologies to all train managers.

ECML disruption due to OLE issues (01/12)

Off topic a bit, what happens to driving these trains, the bulk must take their crew beyond their hours but both the crew and passengers would be keen to have the train go on as far as is practical. Is there an easement of hours?

Issues North of Newcastle - Plessey Viaduct - 09/10 (onwards)

I'm left, having read that with all the insight of a non-engineer, fearing that the viaduct will be handed back still in a slightly dubious state. I can't say why and I'm sure this is irrational but it doesn't seem to have been a perfect structure for some time.

Frighton (Brighton given a spooky temporary name by GTR)

When I am PM (and you could do worse, in fact we have) these joke wrong names will be stopped.

Ticket Office closures no longer going ahead

Rail travel is all about seats. In the commons. That is all.

Confirmed : HS2 West Midlands-Manchester line to be scrapped and replaced with other projects.

Apologies if this has been said already but not going to Crewe must be an electoral decision not fiscal as it was a relatively low cost section. I'm not a railway expert but a map and crayon session strongly says to me that going to Crewe makes Euston (!) to the West Midlands much better value.

Ayr Station Hotel Fire 28/05/2023 and now on fire again 25/09/2023

Surely it has to be demolished now?

Is there anyways to find out how many train carriages platforms can hold.

My (not absolutely up to date) Quail maps purport to show number of coaches for platforms. Is this based on a standard vehicle length or simply an approximation? Or a not-very-approximation?

New XC contract - news & updates (not speculation)

Fewer than half of the AWC 221s, I think. Another apparently irrational decision driven by the current accounting systems.

    Toton - Attercliffe Scrap Move

Totally off topic I grew up looking at the MR signal box there from our upstairs windows. The one at Settle Junction looks just like it. I need to get a photo.

    Toton - Attercliffe Scrap Move

Is that Trowell Jn? I grew up there.

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

At risk of being "me too" I cannot see Labour reversing this. They were in power for a long time and the prior restrictions on IA remained in place. They may be more sparing in using the power by the SoS, or merely more remorseful when they do.

    Pumpkin Sheffield closed

It will turn into a coach at midnight. Lets hope Brush isn't converting the white mice for haulage. (I think all Pumpkin is gone or going)

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

He is about to discover "go away and work with..." is government speak for "go away."

Ayr Station Hotel Fire 28/05/2023 and now on fire again 25/09/2023

I too have suggested that. It is the way out for buildings that have served their purpose and with luck this will lead to demolition of the hotel.

Is 2 days off a week an unacceptable aspiration in the modern railway or otherwise world ?

We should be able to run a railway without relying on overtime and the whole working schedule should be rostered within employees normal working week.

    Ipswich Platform 3

That is the big problem, not the signage.

Spital Cow Road Level Crossing - Tweedmouth

Correct. It isn't the foot crossing that surprises me, it seems well protected by lights and sirens but that it is staffed for vehicles when actually driving round would generally be little slower or at times faster.

Spital Cow Road Level Crossing - Tweedmouth

While we were waiting for the Edinburgh to Temple Meads I did speculate to Mrs S that the crossing may have been specified in the original Act of Parliament and I am of course sure the nice, polite chap who worked the gates is known to the employer. But it must be costing a fortune. Perhaps 20...

Spital Cow Road Level Crossing - Tweedmouth

This crossing is south of the loops and sidings just south of the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick upon Tweed. It is a very minor road with virtually no traffic. There is a foot crossing controlled by gates and red/green lights with a siren and vehicle crossing which is operated only by a rail...
