Ever not been able to get off when you want to (overcrowding)

That's assuming that they knew they didn't know how to open the door. I don't like being held up either, but pushing in front of people (though if you could press the button and get off first without barging past anyone I don't see what the big deal was?) is obviously going to elicit a...

Ever not been able to get off when you want to (overcrowding)

I was under impression that most of the crowded routes were running at full capacity as opposed to them just not wanting to put another train in service? I'm not surprised they're tutting considering as far as they know, you're just pushing in for no reason. While virtually everyone I've ever...

'Big man' vs Sam Main incident (final decision: no charges for either)

Provocation - "something that incites, instigates, angers, or irritates." Telling someone to get off the train they want to be in certainly fulfils that criteria. I said it was a fully justified act, but that doesn't remove it as being provocative. As I already said, I was just clarifying...

'Big man' vs Sam Main incident (final decision: no charges for either)

Sorry, my mistake. The wording you put in your post - especially at the end - could be interpreted (wrongly as I now know!) as you wanting the boy prosecuted and the man to get away with it.

'Big man' vs Sam Main incident (final decision: no charges for either)

First part yes, second part no. The provocation from the guard was justified. I was merely describing it as it was - and not the random swearing at random people calling it a "public order offence" implies. I didn't notice that, but they have obviously watched the video so will be well aware...

'Big man' vs Sam Main incident (final decision: no charges for either)

I personally don't think a few swear words (which while the provocation was fully justified, was still in response to a provocation) and a possible £2ish fare evasion is grounds enough for it to be heroic to severely endanger someone. The way he was thrown onto the platform could easily have...

    Train tickets in canada

I don't know if you specifically want to use the train, but I used the Megabus while I was there. A quick look at their website quotes about $60 for the 4 of you. Probably not as comfortable as the train, but not too bad really.

Southeastern - Greenwich Line - Extending the platforms or not?

Will moving to double decker trains be prohibitively expensive at all? They seem to work pretty well in Sydney/New South Wales.

    Refund options?

Yeah that is that policy. I asked the bus driver 3 times (asked then replied "so I can bring my bike on", I can definitely bring the bike?"), walked back down the stairs and picked up my bike for him to immediately stand up and go "what do you think you are doing, you can't bring bikes on here"...

Using an invalid route due to engineering works?

It's not from London terminals, it's not Southern only (half the journey is on Southeastern) and the re-routing involves 1 hour on a SWT service, compared to 1hr15mins if I got on at Clapham Junction. Also, the only barriers I should be going through are at Victoria. It presumably has been on...

Using an invalid route due to engineering works?

Thanks for all the replies. Even if it wasn't technically allowed I was hoping the guard would show sympathy and let me through considering the London - Southampton route through Barnham is now ridiculous due to engineering works, whereas it should normally be a direct train. I think I may...

Using an invalid route due to engineering works?

Thanks, I didn't see that option on their planner first of all. That's going to be a pain - especially as I have to switch to the exact same South West train I could have taken from Clapham Junction in the end anyway! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Really? The Southern...

    Megatrain Tickets

I don't know if he actually was, but the person checking the reference numbers did appear to be cross-checking it with his list - which should stop abuse. They never seem to on the Greyhound on the other hand! They just glance at the number and if it seems realistic let you through.

Using an invalid route due to engineering works?

Thanks for the quick reply. National Rail Enquiries only gives me the option to go by train (which makes me go from Victoria to Barnham then back to Clapham Junction to get on the SWT service - completely pointless!). I've tried on the Southern website and that gives no option to restrict to...

    Megatrain Tickets

You don't actually need to print it off either. I just made a note of the reference number on my phone and showed that to the person at the barrier. Lots of people in front of me seemed to be doing the same as well.

Using an invalid route due to engineering works?

Hi, I have a ticket from London to Southampton with the "via Barnham" condition on it - i.e I would normally have to take the direct London Victoria to Southampton train. There seems to be a load of engineering work tomorrow and I can't find a reasonable route that goes via Barnham (the only...
