Even last night at midnight it was letting me select tickets but not authorise payment. In the end tried paying by PayPal (with the same card) and that worked fine. Might be useful information it they have further payment problems today.

    Wooshing out of Leeds.

Class 43 LNER Farewell Railtour Dec 2019

I missed the chance to buy one of the nice 'Let's go round again' enamel badges due to lack of actual money on the platform at Leeds. Does anyone know anywhere online that may sell them please?

I will never do a 20 min Eurostar - ICE change at Brussels Midi again

I can't recommend the DB website enough. You can put up to two breaks in your journey of up to 40 hours I think. Making pleasant stop-overs in German cities of sometimes two nights possible and easing the fatigue of a long journey. If you do want to do a short change at Midi why not walk to...

Isn't it the case that you can only use the offer starting at a Northern station anyhow?

Is this offer replacing the newspaper offer of a free three month railcard with a subsequent discount on a full price one which usually appeared around May each year I wonder?

York to Edinburgh Hotcakes are £10. For instance origin York, 00:42 Destination Edinburgh, 08:01 on 08/07/2017 with a four hour stop-off in Newcastle. Not the easiest of journey I'll give you. There might have been others but they might have sold.

I find Virgin Red annoying as the offers they have they redirect you to the relevant site (East or West coast) but use some sort of internal browser that the app launches and hence tricky to work out the URL of the offer. Also not possible to see if you are signing in to a secure site come to...

Delay reply or refund after cancelled Grand Central service

Grand Central sent me a cheque for £25.38. I wasn't satisfied that this covered the disruption and upset caused by their failure (caused by them or not) to run the service. So I wrote a letter explaining why I wasn't happy and they have send me scratchcards valid for a year for three single...

Delay reply or refund after cancelled Grand Central service

A friend of mine used to work in the BT Chairman's office (as it was called then) and I can confirm that people who complained to the Chairman in an often received better resolution than people who may have just called 150 and had a moan. Apparently though it did tend to be MPs who would...

Steam train travels towards Queensbury (West Yorkshire) Station 2016

Well the title of the video is factually correct but obviously not quite what it might have been. The tunnel entrance to Halifax is visible in the background though. It's as much as anyone's going to get to travelling on a train along this trackbed for the forseeable future I fear. trYDwL4jOxY

I wonder how much extra revenue Northern Rail make with people traveling around the North picking up newspapers to get the tokens?

You can type your details in to the form page and that is what is downloaded. A little more fiddly I would say but it does work.

Thanks for that Captain; I'll provisionally plan to get off to Leeds Station on Monday 16th and grab some papers.

Oh do they do that every evening? So all we need to know is the days the tokens are to be printed and job's a good 'un.

Delay reply or refund after cancelled Grand Central service

It's frustrating when dealing with an industry that expects nothing ever to go wrong in customer's lives so they always get on trains they book without fail. Then threaten them with legal action if things go wrong and a train is missed or a ticket is mislaid. Yet when the industry screws up they...

Delay reply or refund after cancelled Grand Central service

Oh yes I forgot to add (don't you hate it when people add supposedly relevant information at a much later date). As it turned out when I visited the toilet on the Northern service from Doncaster to Leeds traveling in the next carriage was six or seven Grand Central staff all in uniform. They...

Delay reply or refund after cancelled Grand Central service

Oh I think I've been misleading here. I was responding to the question about how late we would have been if we'd caught the very next East Coast service North, rather than the one after the very next. The answer is we'd still have arrived in Bradford 2 hours and 17 minutes later than if we'd...

Delay reply or refund after cancelled Grand Central service

That's a great question which I'd not thought to look into. The King's Cross to Glasgow service we did travel on left at 1611h. The first East Coast service to Leeds after the canceled 1550h Grand Central left at 1559h. According to realtraintimes that arrived in Leeds 80 minutes late at...
